Proof that the earth is made of squishy stuff?
Over the last couple weeks I have been haunted by a problem. If the earth were totally rigid the lake shoreline would be at a higher elevation at the center than it is at the edges because water has mass and gravity which would make it bulge up in the middle. I did some rough calculations and it see...
More silver dissolved than expected
part of a bigger project. I thought it was interesting. maybe I will try to recreate it sometime.
The Bonneville shoreline is not at the same elevation everywhere.
So that's the first part where I show that it isn't. I want to get more measurements from a bunch more locations. And then explain why they are different. Spoilers: isostatic rebound. I'm going to need some silly putty. A lot of silly putty. Lol
Analyzing a burn scar to see how the fire started.
Do you think I'm correct about the lightning? It's not as clear as I would like. Perhaps I will find another burn scar and compare. https://youtu.be/7fIr5O_kCwE
Driving 100 Pi miles
should I sit on this one till next pi day or just publish now?
Difference between charcoal and Biochar
After having worked with it a lot over the last few years I am of the opinion that "Biochar" should be defined as charcoal that has been affected by bacterial action.
Reducing fire danger with fire
I plan to refilm most of this making things less disjointed and discussing my other fire preps. I checked and in my area this is legal November through February while conditions are good. I.e. low wind and there is snow on the ground. https://youtu.be/R_Tc9OqfYmE?si=zf6DNsZpWzlxoOlw
Why bubbles trigger crystal formation in super cooled water
This is additional explanation for this short I posted a few days ago: https://youtube.com/shorts/MuL0zLXEUps?si=HucaRfytpklR9Ujohttps://youtu.be/LrwabXIzmxM?si=DG3_3cun_WtD-9Mh

It's the bubbles not the shock
It's a misconception that it's the shock that causes the super cooled water to crystalize. The shock itself does not do it but rather it's the tiny bubbles that the shock produces at the air water interface that act as nucleation sites.
Solar powered Chicken water de-iceing
How well will this work? I'll update in a few days when I know.
ChickenHole base: The little lung
Finally! I've been working on this for so long. Hopefully it comes out ok, there are a couple large time skips that I wasn't sure how to handle. If you have any suggestions let me know so I can try to implement them for the final release.
Going to 5 PSI in a homemade space suit
We were using an external oxygen source for the demonstration and in the chaos the regulator went to higher pressure than intended. There is a bleed valve that would have started dumping at 6PSI if I hadn't caught it. Suit has been tested to 12 so I wasn't too concerned. Still, we had a chat...
More wormhole musings
So I made a quick animation to answer some questions you had. Its not exactly what an observer would see in 3d but if the wormhole was in 2d and you were a 3dimensional observer looking down at it, then it is accurate.the blue and yellow circles are the wormhole openings, in reality they would have...
Science fiction story idea:
I'm toying with the concept of a science fiction novel centered on a cattle rancher who discovers a wormhole hidden in the desert. I aim to adhere as closely as possible to the laws of physics, so there will be no use of it for infinite energy or time travel.I envision the wormhole as a four-dim...
Can I regenerate soda lime?
The CO2 scrubber in my space suit uses soda lime; a mixture of calcium and sodium hydroxide. It's not expensive but I hate throwing it away.
Why trace gasses matter
A mixture of gasses will always absorb more light than any of them alone. It's like stacking color filters.
Can I make a "fish" biofilter that handles my waste?
Processing solid waste is pretty much set using composting techniques but urine usually needs to be kept separate. This is what I'm looking into for processing my urine. The idea is that once oxidized to nitrate it can be used as fertilizer the same way as water from a fish tank. I'll make a...
My truck threw a shoe.
Normally I don't film this stuff but since it was what was preventing me from filming I figured I'd get some content out of it even if I don't make it widely public. What do you think?
