Difference between charcoal and Biochar
🕑 Added 2025-04-30 09:48:39 +0000 UTCAfter having worked with it a lot over the last few years I am of the opinion that "Biochar" should be defined as charcoal that has been affected by bacterial action.

Im curious how long does it take, be interesting to extract a chunk of charcoal each week and test its permeability.

Good timing. I had a debate recently with some science minded friends and they were equating charcoal and bio-char. I said I thought they were different and required bacterial activation but there really isn't an established answer. Also, people often refer to charcoal as pure carbon, which is definitely not true. You hint on that talking about the ash left over. I'd love to see you do a full form video on this topic!
