Can I regenerate soda lime?
🕑 Added 2024-08-22 02:06:01 +0000 UTCThe CO2 scrubber in my space suit uses soda lime; a mixture of calcium and sodium hydroxide.
It's not expensive but I hate throwing it away.

Recycling on earth is a luxury because of mass production. Recycling on Mars is more of a necessity. Wearing your space suit on earth isn't necessary either, so, I'd say this is highly relevant.

if the original pellets do not crumble to a powder when you add water, maybe they add something to stick them together? maybe try some organic adhesive compound to keep from getting a lung full of dust. it will get burned off each recycle but if you can source the adhesive renewably from a plant it should be better than buying new all the time.

compress powder into new pellets?

Would this be difficult to replace on mars? I guess powering a furnace for an hour would probably use less energy than creating a mining operation.
