those cheap collets are hit and miss, I've had same that a fine and some the at so bad that you can tell by eye they off center

This is was particularly useful for high school robotics. A mentor for another team was breaking end mills while making parts and couldn't understand why. The fracture point didn't match the cutting load. I also suspect the collet was grabbing the shank more in the back instead of evenly. I am far out of my depth on the topic.

The "buy good tools" lesson is often a painful religion to convert to. I became a believer the day that I burned out 3 cheap routers trying to build a door for my wife for her birthday. Fortunately the candles on her cake covered the smell coming from the garage.
