Totally rewriting my original comment now that I'm off work: I'm glad to hear you also dislike the Barbie movie. For optics, it makes sense why the film's promoters only focused on Greta since she was the director, but I think Noah Baumbach's work on the script should be talked about more. I think it's kind of wild that the Barbie movie has gotten away with seeming like it is by and for women, when really, it is by a man and woman writing together and in many ways paints women in a worse light than men. How is the Barbie-archy of Barbieland any better than the patriarchy of the real world? When patriarchy reaches Barbie land, the status quo doesn't actually change, it just switches from the Barbies having all the power and Ken's feeling disenfranchised to the Ken's having all the power and the Barbies feeling disenfranchised. And I think that could be saved by a decent ending where everyone realizes that gender is a social construct and bioessentialism is silly and everyone should be treated equally. But the movie just... doesn't do that. The Barbie movie literally ends with the Barbies inciting a war to distract the Ken's so they can steal the election, Barbie telling Ken that she's too girlboss to date him, and then Barbie fucking off to the real world. What a bizarre film with no morals. It does a decent job at getting people in their emotions, but it isnt interested in harnessing the audiences emotions to end fascism, it harnesses their emotions to give fascism a pink makeover. (The scene where Barbie tells the old lady she's beautiful did make me cry though.)
