alex you're very right about clowns and community. speaking as someone who studied clowning in the past - clowns by and large are ride or die. there's definitely a spiritual side to some of it as well. look into "sacred clowns." clowning can deal with vulnerability, trust, and making fun of the things you hate about yourself and/or society at large. important to note that in the USA there's a big history of clowns perpetuating racist stereotypes, along with stereotypes of most other marginalized groups

I have information about the magician and clown community. I was friends with/in the scene of high class magicians in New York City. Many magicians have worked as clowns in the past and they are absolutely back stabbers like Alex mentioned. Many magicians are very cool and most of the women have solidarity with each other but the male magicians not so much. The magicians have group chats where they talk shit about each other I’ve seen it!!!

I took a clowning class in college and it was more like a meditative practice than performance... it's about, like, getting in touch with your subconscious, which is part of why they don't talk. it's fun and a weirdly vulnerable/bonding thing to do with other people, but also very bizarre
