I know this is mega late, but those things he drops during the boss fight, are Wash Basins. It's a long running Japanese gag to have a wash basin drop on a characters head (you see it a ton in Anime) They look a lot like giant pie plates, so some people think that's what they are, but nay they are a wash basin, fun fact, now you know this trope, you will see it in all your anime. It's literally the Japanese Equivalent of an Anvil or 10ton weight in Western Cartoons (so no it's not some random Japanese weirdness, we do it to).

I loved this game on the PS2 and I only wish they would have gotten to the parts where people actually shoot at them in game and they can activate the hero mode to deflect the bullets back. And if this could get made into a series.
