"and his facial features showed a degree of wariness that were unusual on a gleam." I believe it should be 'weariness', as in Valerian is very tired. I got the impression that some level of paranoia was common among raiders.

DeadicatedReader

so ful of tricks. -> full tftc

H.

Just beat people up until they share what they know. Prime detective work!

Lmao just because you take an oath doesn’t mean you can’t realize the oath you took wasn’t inherently destructive… I believed… that the corporations principles were stupid just as Valerian did. Not only were they wrong in concept they were wrong in future advancement. It’s the reason the CDC and other countries equivalents make viruses to make cures…. Just in case we already do this If Coke Inc was like hey we believe in our product so much once you join us you can’t drink water or other drinks anymore… you must take an oath… then come to find out Coke isn’t good for you are you still gonna follow your oath?

This was in response to the responses on my deleted comment. Which were … not there upon my deletion ? Anyways Patreon is weird and won’t allow me to respond under those.

gray matter

Threshold and America. Plus the zealots. ( to be clear they know crescent is Nestra not Nestra is alien) I deleted my comment cuz I wrote while drinking and I thought it came off as more aggressive than intended. I meant what I wrote, but I do love this story and I don’t like how Nestra has handled her multiple identities. It was so dumb… if she didn’t have the ability to teleport I would get them being able to figure it out… also if she didn’t have a super badass watching over the technical shit she can’t compete with.. It just didn’t add up for me.

RonGAR

Heh... its takes Nestra and Helena longer to drive to a portal world than it takes for them to close one. LOL ------ Go LPL, keep fighting the good fight!

Mecanimus

Alda model 4 is the model, Gidung is the manufacturer/brand and roadster is the type of car so... they're all interchangeable,

Tom

Per Chapter: Part 21

Tom

Isn't the make and model of car wrong? Instead of a Gidung Crane roadster it should be an "Alda Model 4" in Bonbon pink?

Owen Taylor

If you think Valerian is crazy, I think you need to read Vigor Mortis. Only then can you experience true crazy.

Gibborim

My impression was that she considered the whole situation as just a weird thing that happened. The is a very clear medical trail that she had no core and she was visibly not a gleam. We've already seen the dual core of a chimera of dizygotic twins that fused in the womb. Shinran has really weird conceptual powers. I think Rags knows that weird, unique cases can and will happen.

Ekko

Wtf. Have we read the same Story? Because you describe some nonsense plot I wouldn't even touch with a tenfoot Pole. Did you come back after not reading the story for a long time and are mixing stuff up? Because none of your arguments really fit what we have read about so far.

Mecanimus

Normally I don’t intervene in discussions but you’re completely out of line. BaiHe is a company: its purpose is to make profit and in order to do that, they have decided to maintain an image which Valerian objects to. He is only experimenting on himself and on monsters. Your comparison with Mengele is nonsensical. He also broke no oath so I’m not sure what you’re talking about. You can approve or disapprove of his life choices but accusing someone of being a monster when all he wants to do is to fight portal monsters on his own terms makes no sense, and I don’t appreciate the insinuation.

Exandra

Hm, interesting. Is your opinion based on his reasoning or more based on an emotional attachment due to the readers perspective? Why do you think that a corporation shouldn’t have principles that they’re unwilling to cross? Do you think everyday people would mind that an oath breaker, who already ignored his own honor based promises, to treat humans? Especially if the person is known to do everything to support ‘the cause’? (Whatever that is) How would you compare Valerian to historical doctors like Mengele who experimented on ‘asocial’ people to help the war efforts and the ensure the future of ‘worthy’ humans?

Cormac

Which two countries know Nestra's secret?

steamrick

Why would the zealot group think that her Crescent identity isn't already known internally?

steamrick

If she were to do any interrogation it'd be over how Crescent has been around since before Nestra received a new core in a miracle of scientific and medical innovation. Either way, Ragnarok seems to be taking the 'gifted horse' approach to having a competent enforcer on call.

gray matter

I agree with everything Valerian stated. They’re all Stupid

Exandra

Yaiks, Valerian screams supervillain to me. Corp has clear rules, Valerian ignores them many, many times and get kicked out. (A real corpo in our times would have kicked him out after the second incident) And the reasoning? Something akin to “I want to kill” combined with some weird ‘arguments’ . The arguments could have been like “We need to bash children’s skulls together, because if we don’t do it, someone else will. Otherwise we are not prepared.” Excuse me, what? You dont need to do morally questionable acts to prevent them. The entire Corpo is specifically specialized to counteract illnesses, tumors and so on. Valerian seems completely bonkers to me.

Andrew K

Quickly becoming somewhat well known as both is probably actually her best bet, since the huge apparent power gap would implicitly cement the perception that they're different people. Just can't become so well known on either side that she would end up with a paparazzi issue.

Adam Davies

Great chapter! Often linking chapters that aren’t part of a larger arc can feel a bit pointless or contrived, but not the case here. Still engaging while setting up for whatever is next. Thanks a bunch!

David Morrison

For a moment there I thought Nestra would bring Valerian home to her parents place. Mother swoons, Helen gets hormonal... Mayhem ensues.

Mantarok1205

Jolly good!

Daemion

I guess Shinran talked to her and told her it's fine.

Kota

Now I imagine Detective Nestra going up against the League of Lesser Evil ... truly an unstoppable force vs. immovable object situation.

PickledTink

Are you retconning the name of the corporation? It was previously BaiHua, not BaiHe.

Nait02

Transformation gleams are supposed to be gleams in and out of Transformation. She probably figured Nestra was hiding her Gleam status for a while now and only later became public. Or more likely she is aware of the many incinsistencies and decided that she currently is more useful when not antagonized

Beelzy

So I thought Ragnarok didn't know she wasn't human and thought she had a transformation power. How has she not interrogated Nestra yet now that her human form is a gleem?

LordPatreon

Great chapter, thank you

LordPatreon

LordPatreon

Great chapter, thank you

Kennyevilmonkey

She should see if she can get him a job working with her doctor.

Kennyevilmonkey

I miss that story. Such a fun read.

Dietz

I had actually forgotten Crescent was currently employed as the government's enforcer. This was a funny reminder.

WarStrider72

Did anyone call for an Azarinth Healer?

Daemion

Nestra's adventures are always lots of fun. :)

Jonathan

Great chapter! I love that Nestra is a total musclehead haha! It gives a different feel to her than your other characters, which I feel is important. Obviously with the female/predator/mage/daddy's-girl there's a lot of similarities with Ari/Viv but playing up Nestra's more instinctive and straight forward nature, as well as her love of food (and maybe expertise in cooking), in my mind helps distinguish her. Ari and Viv may be treated like bruisers in their universe but they're definitely more intellectual (as rune crafter and virtuouso witch) than police-academy-stab-it-first Nestra. Having her go hard into cooking would be a great hobby!

Unwillingmainer

Glad her house arrest is better than last time. Sucks about Vallarian and his family, but at least he has some friends and allies, unlike when Nestra did the same thing years ago. Maybe he'll figure stuff out without wallowing for a decade. Love how their new guild is doing and that Crescent is getting reputation. Wonder how long before some new connects the dots? Because as she said, she isn't very good at this double life thing.

Specter

Thank you! They were always so ful of tricks. -> full

Azra

Detective Nestra investigating power is indeed... Striking.

Tjolbin

They were always so ful of tricks.  Full*

BurnNote

Detective Nestras inexplicable success continues to baffle and astound the world of crime.

ResidentCyborg

“No. I picked a path. You decided it would be lonely,” is a great line. Just had to shout it out.

Leviathon251

Awesome chapter! I always love alternate POVs

Enif

What a lovely chapter. Hopefully Vallarian will be alright striking out on his own.

Jackjargon

Good chapter! Fun to see what our favorite healer has ben up too ( for us anyways) and the little people league! ( you really like league in team names lol)

Bunny Waffles

Sharing her bounty with the common folk of the city! Truly Nestra is a kind and generous God!

WarStrider72

Thanks for the chapter boss!
