On the breastfeeding note there are mixed reviews. For some moms it can be painful but for a lot of women (because it causes the body to release oxytocin) it generates a feeling of comfort and contentment, also leading to a feeling of closeness with the baby. I would assume this system would be similar for a mama cow and her baby but I have no idea how it would play out for a cow being milked.

You know what? I refered a friend to the podcast telling her how much I loved it because it's so effing hilarious and it's a major comfort listen (on my 4th relisten). I LOVE dungeon and daddies (not a bdsm podcast 😉)... As a midwife in training, I can confidently say this about breastfeeding: it's complicated, and you're all right... It can certainly be unpleasant - until the mother and baby gets it right, which can take some time (a half minute of moderate pain during the first few attempts is usually deemed acceptable, but in some cases it can take a lot longer), but if everything goes right, it should end up releasing a shittonne of oxytocin, the so-called love hormone, which is usually released during sex and eating chocolate, and can cause you to create strong loving bonds. Once this bond is created between mother and child, there's a beautiful give and take/supply and demand symbiotic relationship between them, - the more milk the child needs, the more the mother will produce, while even loading said milk with the exact nutritional components the child specifcally requires to flourish and build it's personal immune system (breastfeeding will save you a lot of visits to the doctor during the first year(s)). This is all a potentially rather complicated process, where first the mother usually has to be completely available to the baby's demands, while over time, the baby will become more used to the mother's needs and schedule. This process can be "hacked" by "extra" milking (supply and demand - if more is milked out, the more will be produced), which is essentially what dairy farmers make a living off. And yes, if a larger milking process is established, it will certainly be very painful for the mother to have it abruptly stopped, or even delayed. Any dairy farmer can tell you how the cows will mooh in absolute frustration if the milking is delayed. So can most human mothers
