Can’t help but agree with Ali. I’ve always felt Aus celebrates mediocrity. We have tall-poppy syndrome, convict/jailer heritage, an underdog identity/ethos, if a celeb goes 5 mins without self-deprecating then we hate them; etc. These are mostly good things IMO … but yeah the downside is we celebrate songs with 3 chords; mullets and gross mo’s; bland beer; mismatching outfits; disheveled clothes that don’t fit; etc. I think a large portion of us WANT to look drab because the Australian mentality allows it to be a “style”. (Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people around me where I now live tend to dress worse … but dat’s called “poverty” 😬 lol)

Al Murray the pub landlord is a hilarious British comedian. Ali taking tall poppy cutting to the extreme is the sort of shit I listen for.

Agree, we have Tall poppies now = cringe. We have amazing artists, Comedians; Luke and Lewis, Roy and HG, Shaun Micallef, Rob Sitch and crew, Magda Subanski, Paul Fennech. Music; Paul Kelly, Hilltop Hoods, Divinyls, Midnight Oil, ACDC. Movies; The Castle, Priscilla, Wolf Creek, Muriel’s Wedding and Crocodile Dundee.
