The power in National City flickered off and on – all of the lights blinking like a million fireflies in midsummer. Lena’s first order of business as the new overlord of the city was to supply L-Corp with the energy she would need to recreate her robotic peace enforcers.

Kara rolled her eyes at Lena’s dramatics and retrieved the laptop so Lena could input the command l that would release all of the alien prisoners at the DEO.
This was part of her plan to make good use of her robotic peace enforcers and to get the public to accept her takeover of National City. She turned on the flatscreen so they could watch as news stations around the city began to report on the widespread havoc the freed aliens began to cause. As minutes went by, panic around the city increased, and the sounds of sirens blared in the distance like a score of music. The populace would support anyone who could restore law and order, and reporters were already talking about locking the aliens back up.
Lena watched on with morbid enjoyment, and then turned to Kara with a haughty raised brow as she snidely remarked, “Well, what are you waiting on? Go fetch.”
Kara’s lips twisted to bare her teeth, and she snarled in anger, but with their deal already made, the Super could hardly argue as Lena pointed to the balcony with a dismissive hand.
Kara was gone before Lena could sigh, and within the span of an hour, Supergirl and Lena Luthor’s new robotic helpers were on the streets and bringing a swift end to the latest crisis.
Across the city, the actual Lena Luthor who belonged in the Earth Prime timeline was none the wiser, because Kara was still knotted inside of her. “You’re being silly,” Kara stated, and whatever chivalrous attempt she was about to make backfired when Lena grabbed her by the arms and barrel rolled them off the bed to land in an awkward heap.
The fall didn’t hurt Kara, unfortunately, but it did save Lena from losing what little pride she had left.
As ridiculous as they must have looked sliding along together, they made it into her kitchen without saying another word, and Lena glared at the alpha the whole way.
Eventually they located the phone, and Lena awkwardly stayed perched on Kara’s lap to reach it on the counter top. She called Nia’s number at CatCo, and after a few rings, the young reporter answered in confusion.
“Lena?” Nia asked, and based on the sounds that traveled through the phone, the newsroom was in the middle of dealing with a currently unfolding story. “Are you with Kara?”
“Why would you ask that?” Lena questioned in a high pitch of suspicion, and Kara decided it was the perfect time to blurt out, “Yeah, I’m right inside—I mean—beside—Lena.”
Lena drew the alpha a murderous look, even though Nia seemed to have missed Kara’s stupid slip of the tongue.
“Your new invention is incredible,” Nia gushed and the bright smile on her face was unmistakable. “I was headed out to help, and then all of your robots appeared to save the day.”
“My what?” Lena shrilly asked, as she thought back to her first glimpse of the corrupt Lena Luthor from another timeline.
Without a doubt, the robots belonged to her look alike, and Lena knew there would be harsh consequences for them both if any of the bots destroyed any part of the city.
She had no doubt that everyone would pardon Kara for her twin’s wrongdoings. There would be a stark difference in how Lena was treated, and as she saw herself becoming a villain in the eyes of every citizen in National City, her breaths became faster until she began to hyperventilate.
“Those robots don’t actually belong to Lena,” Kara cut in with concern, and then she shifted to shout into the phone, “It’s a complicated situation. We’ll explain when we see you.”
Kara ended the call, and fortunately the nature of the conversation seemed to have loosened the knot enough so that they could separate from each other.

William Dey from CatCo was reporting on a disruption happening across National City, where aliens were trashing stores and fighting humans in the streets.
The robots were a godsend and cleared out the aliens both peacefully and expediently, with the help of Supergirl, who seemed to be leading the mission.
“Project Non-nocere,” Lena uttered out in amazement before she could think of censoring herself.
Her magnum opus was complete, but there was an insidiousness to the robotic peacekeepers, just in knowing that it came from the mind of a very damaged person. Seeing it was enough to make her sick, and she tore the remote out of Kara’s hand to turn off the television, but faltered when the alpha stepped in front of her.
“Lena, I think we should talk before we go,” Kara tried and put out her hand to touch her arm. She flinched when Lena pulled away with her arms crossed and an unhappy jut of her jaw.
“Now is not the time, Supergirl.” Lena’s frosty tone was almost cruel, and she might have hated herself for the wounded look on Kara’s face, until she remembered none of this would have happened if Kara had been honest in the first place. “Our top priority is to the people of National City, where two imposters are playing heroes, and I, for one, would like to know why before anyone gets hurt.”
“You’re right,” Kara relented, hanging her head as she placed her hands on her hips. “This is— it’s bigger than us, but after we’ve saved the day—”
“It seems we already have.” Lena darkly remarked, her narrowed eyes locked on the screen where Supergirl was being interviewed live by Willam Dey.
“Supergirl, all of National City has been watching you work in tandem with Lena Luthor to protect the city. Is there anything you’d like to say to the people at home watching?” William asked, his smile far too tense and his forehead sweaty.
Back at L-Corp, the other Lena watched her own Kara with interest as the hero grabbed the mic from the reporter’s hand without so much as glancing at him.
Supergirl gave her full attention to the crowd and the camera directed at her. Lena waited for the alpha’s arrogance to break through and ruin their plan. All it would take was the wrong word, a look of disdain, or a sliver of red beneath her skin to fuck up all of Lena’s hard work, and she could only watch on and hope that it didn’t happen.
“What happened today was a tragedy,” Supergirl stated, her tone hitting the right notes of remorse and compassion to pull the audience in, “and I know that you’re all afraid, but I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to be. National City is my home and I will always protect it, but sometimes even I need help. I want to personally thank Lena Luthor for selflessly stepping in to help me protect all of you today with her amazing tech. She’s shown everyone that you don’t need to have powers to be a real hero.”
It was all a charade – every word of it a simple manipulation to sway public opinion, and keep the city in the palm of Lena’s hand. And yet she couldn’t help the way her distorted, broken heart seemed to ache from Kara’s words as if they were sincere.
Lena was good, she had always been good, and this was for everyone’s protection.
She was so captivated by Kara’s performance that she failed to notice the two goons that crept into her office until it was too late.

Lena saw the needle in the other man’s hand, and hardened her jaw to sneer at him spitefully. “If that’s all you’ve got, I doubt I’ll even feel it.”

The sound of his jaw breaking registered to Lena before she noticed Kara standing there with wild, angry eyes.
“Now is that any way to talk to the woman who just saved National City? Where’s the gratitude?” Kara asked, and stepped over the man, who collapsed at her feet, to stalk towards the other goon with malicious intent.
Kara could have used super speed to be done with it all before anyone even blinked, but this was for show, and Lena was captivated.
“Supergirl wait, you—you don’t hurt people-” The goon blurted in shock and hurried away from Lena with his hands raised. “Please, I won’t tell anyone—”
“You’re right about that,” Kara snarled, and before his pathetic whining went on any longer, she grabbed him by the front of the shirt and threw him right out the open balcony window to soar over to the next skyscraper.
Kara looked slightly out of breath, something she most certainly wasn’t, and her eyes roamed over Lena like she was trying to check for any damage. The only feasible explanation was absurd: Kara was worried about her, and if she was worried, that meant she cared.
“Well, don’t just stand there,” Lena rasped, her heart pounding from something far worse than fear. She stood up on shaky legs and pointed to the man crawling across her floor. “Take out the trash.”
Kara grabbed him by the back of his shirt and hauled him off the floor to fly him across the city like a vulture with a mouse in its talon. She returned in a flash, and then she was lifting Lena’s chin, gentle in how she touched her omega.
Lena shied away from the comforting touch, despite an inner longing to accept the tenderness from the alpha. Her panic was made worse by the superhero’s protective scents, which infused in her the sense that nothing could hurt while Kara was around.
She experienced a terrible pang of gratitude in her chest, and much to her horror, wished that Kara had come into her life that much sooner.
“We need to get to the DEO,” Lena snapped and pushed by Kara to get to the bottle of whiskey that Lena of Earth Prime had the good sense to keep handy. She helped herself to a double and gulped it all before Kara could engulf in her pheromones. “We’re already running behind on schedule.”
“I can make up for that lost time,” Kara assured her and plucked the crystal glass from her hand. She placed it aside and sidled closer, wrapping her arms around Lena to fly her off across the city.
Those few minutes while they were above National City were simultaneously the most comforting and disruptive experience in Lena’s life – and that included the tragedy she suffered when her helicopter was shot from the sky. Being so close to Kara left her speechless and confused, and it was only when they landed that she re-oriented herself toward the mission she wanted to carry out.
She patted back her hair to make herself more presentable and then summoned the imp Mxy from Brainiac-5‘s bottle, and his guests back from their happy places.
Much to Alex’s embarrassment, she showed up wearing only boxers and a tank top, with Kelly was standing nearby, holding a can of whipped cream.
Lena glanced sideways at Kara, who did a good job of pretending to be her dorky counterpart. The baffled, open-mouthed expression on Kara’s face was a good cover.
“Uhm—hey Alex, hi Kelly.” Kara awkwardly waved, and then gestured to where J’onn was cringing and blocking his face with his hand not far away. “I’ll be over there if you need me.”
“Shit,” Alex grunted and hurried off to her office to grab some pants before rushing back to question them.
“Kara, what the fuck has been happening?” Alex hissed, avoiding Kelly’s eyes when she covertly grabbed the can of cream to stuff it into a desk out of the way. “Where is everyone? What the hell is going on?”
“Well uhm—” Kara began, and the flustered way she turned to Lena was so akin to Earth Prime’s Supergirl that Lena instinctively stepped in to take over. She would question herself later on why that felt so natural, but right now it aided in the story they were weaving.
“It’s Lex,” Lena stated, and stepped closer to Alex with unguarded pain in her eyes. “You all know he’s a monster. I thought his angle would be to wheedle his way into Leviathan, but it turns out he had a more diabolical plan. He wanted to replace Kara and I with the worst versions of ourselves to terrorize the city so he could banish all aliens once and for all.”
Kelly looked shaken, and stepped closer to Alex as she asked, “Why would he do that?”
“Same as always, hate.” Lena informed them bitterly, her expression so raw and filled with misery that Kelly took her hand to squeeze.
Lena forced a smile onto her face and endured the contact as she concluded, “He hates all aliens, especially Kryptonians, and he hates that I wouldn’t join him in his petty vendetta. If he could turn National City against us, then nobody would stand in his way.”
“He released every alien captive within the DEO before we realized what he was doing,” Kara muttered with a shrug, actively keeping her head bowed to appear less arrogant.
“He wanted chaos in the streets to divide us,” Lena supplied after a moment, and brought her hand up to rub the side of her neck. “He almost succeeded—”
“Yeah, but then Lena used Lex’s tech to help me subdue them before any real harm was done.” Kara bragged and tossed a soft smile Lena’s way before she glanced at Alex. “He’s locked in one of the cells—"
“What about you two?” Alex cut in, then waved her hand between them with a frown. “I mean the other ones, where are they?”
“We lost them,” Lena explained and then turned to glare at Mxy, who was gagged and bound to a swivel chair. “But we did get him.”
Everything was going exactly as she predicted. In less than sixty seconds, Brainiac-5 and Reign would burst through one of the windows to bottle the little imp and fly off before the true Supergirl and Lena of Earth Prime followed them to the DEO. Then the real fun would begin.
“I knew when you showed up there would be hell to pay,” Alex snarled at the imp, but Kelly held her arm and prohibited her from getting any closer. “I never should have left you with him.” The words were directed to Kara, but her eyes were still on Mxy.
“Well, we have him now, so that’s one less thing to worry about,” Kara sighed, the corners of her lips twitching into the faintest smirk when she glanced to Lena.
Like clockwork, Reign flew straight through the window, shattering it to pieces that blew glass into the DEO with enough force to slash through skin. None of it touched Lena because Kara was already there, shielding her with her red cape, and inadvertently saving Kelly and Alex in the process.
Maybe it was her proximity, or the way they shared breath in the moment, but Lena could have sworn there was something magnetic between them. Her lips parted in wonder before the alpha turned to cosmic clap at the worldkiller. The force of the blast sent desks and chairs through the walls.
It stunned Reign, who let out a snarl of her own and lasered the ceiling above Alex and J’onn’s head. The crumbling concrete came down in chunks and Kara darted into the air to deflect the debris while Brainiac-5 bottled Mxy in the chaos.
J’onn went after him, and Alex open fired on Reign, who set her sights on Kara, just as planned. They locked eyes in a battle of heat vision until Alex located the dart gun loaded with Kryptonite rounds. The threat of real harm scared Reign off, and Lena knew that her friend would be awaiting her next orders in a secure location across town with Brainiac-5.
“I’ll go after her,” Kara spat, and Alex shook her head and wiped cement dust out of her hair.
“Let her go,” Alex insisted. “We need to find the other you.”
With perfect timing, the real Kara touched down in the DEO, and hesitated at the top of the stairs as she took in all of the destruction.
The actual Lena landed beside her in a Lexosuit, most likely because she didn’t want Kara’s hands on her due to their personal problems.
Lena couldn’t have been happier with how her plan unfolded.
For a second, both of the Karas glared at each other in a standoff, and then faced off in close range combat.
The lexo-suited Lena deflected the shots that Alex instantly fired in her direction. “Fuck,” she gritted out and blasted the floor close to the group, which created enough dust to briefly block her from line of sight.
If not for all of the chaos, someone might have realized how casually Lena was striding about the place, or how her scent was one of excitement and not of panic. She reveled in the conflict, and how her own Kara fought and moved fast on her feet.
All of it was magnificent, and as Kara twisted the fist of her Earth Prime twin, Lena waited with bated breath for the other Lena to sound the retreat.
It happened when Red K afflicted Kara was able to get the upper hand.
The Lexosuit changed colors, and then Lena from Earth Prime shot off Kryptonite to come to the defense of her own alpha, which in turn caused Alex to rush forward.

“I’m on it.” The Red K infected Super spat out and flew off in hot pursuit.
The entire ruse mobilized everyone at the DEO to work together in the chase.

Red mist colored the sky around Kara, and then she fell like a shooting star.
