About Tullomer filament
🕑 Added 2024-12-11 19:04:25 +0000 UTCI just finished the online meeting with Z-Polymers. The subject was: Tullomer filament. Before they send me the filament, they want to test it using my test objects. But don't worry, if they decide not to send it to me, I will buy it, because I am curious about it myself (even if it is 500$/kg). I am sure that it has very strong tensile strength (but not stronger than steel as advertised). BUT I am curious about other mechanical properties too.. (my regular testing method). AND I am not writing this to ask any extra donations, I am already very happy with your support. This is just an informative post. (some of you already sent a separate donations for this filament, but as I mentioned, no need, it will be tested, only question is if they will send it to me OR I will buy it).

I hope that it can perform as advertised. Unfortunately, I see too many companies that are hesitant to provide their products for testing due to mediocre or poor performance. If it does what they say, I would keep some on hand for sure. Can't wait to see your test.

I don't understand them (or maybe I do). They are spending fortune to appear on Joel channel and they are hesitating to send me 200g filament. But probably there is something else in the background.. They are not sure that I will create a positive video. But I would just test the filament and present the results. From all base materials, the PETG is the most brittle (even comparred to PLA). It would be more correct to show that hammer test compared to ABS or Nylon.

Saw a YouTube short by Joel Telling where he smacked PETG and Tullomer with a hammer. Completely and utterly nonsensical, but the failure mode is very telling....sorry, interesting.

On the contrary, our sample seems incredibly impact resistant. Far more so than any other polymer I’ve played with.

We got a sample print from Tullomer last week. It is nothing like anything else I have printed. I’m thinking about how we could use it in our combat robots. I’m curious to see how you find its printability. I saw a few print attempts online that produced parts that frayed like damaged Kevlar layup.

The melting temp looks a lot like PPS. I am a rather skeptical given their unsubtle advertising copy, lack of information on the material, and insane price. PPS is the only plastic I know of in this range but it isn't stronger than PEEK, just easier to print. Also what is the deal with their promotional photos, those prints are terrible and they can't even focus their camera :) I guess they must believe their own story, it will be interesting to see how it does in reality.

Nothing specific. But as far as I figure out, they are not sure how it performs on my twist test, layer adhesion, shear test etc. So they want to test it first. But also, they are still fine tunning their profiles for X1C.. I have the feeling, that it will not be in this year.

Did they say anything about expectations, regarding the tests? Their advertising is quite... Proud, to say the least.
