This release nearly ended my life

This release did amazing. Stellar, even. As far as book 1 releases are concerned, this is one of the best this entire sphere has ever seen! To call it successful would be a minor understatement! This is a real bestseller!
That being said, it didn't go without any problems. In fact, a pretty huge problem appeared. And by all means, it's a bloody miracle that my release survived.
One of my biggest nightmares (any, generally, the biggest nightmare of any releasing author who understands how Amazon works) is the dreaded Rank Freeze TM.
ABSR (Amazon Best Seller Ranking) can freeze sometimes.
Usually, this doesn't change much of anything for anyone. But if you're releasing, this is by far the worst thing that could happen to you, sans like getting hit by a car or getting brain cancer.
Because it effectively makes your rank invisible when visibility is absolutely crucial.
This happened a week ago to Cultist of Cerebon, and it was even bad enough for me to make a whole update post.
Well, guess what?
On day 1 of my release, later in the day, the ranks froze. Usually, a bad freeze lasts like 12 hours and annihilates any releases that went out that day.
This one lasted for thirty. fucking. hours. 30. HOURS. OVER A WHOLE FUCKING DAY:
One of the worst freezes we've seen in a long time.
And of course, it just had to happen to me. As things usually do when I drop anything at all because I am cursed.
Remember the title of this post? I'm not kidding. Last night, I was up until like 6 AM, my heart POUNDING out of my chest as I kept desperately checking to see whether the ranks had unfrozen or not. My chest still hurts. I learned why "worried sick" is an oft-used phrase. I was literally worried sick. I actually got sick from how worried I was, and the trauma I lived through with Jester was not helping in the slightest.
Thankfully, due to the overwhelming support you guys have shown, the series managed to land a pretty visible spot, literally just barely as the freeze was about to hit. It was a fucking hair's breadth away from getting buried. But it wasn't buried. At Rank #3 Gamelit & LitRPG, it had more than enough visibility to ride the wave through the freeze and even crack into the store-wide top 200 bestselling books on its first day. Insane.
So know that every single one of you who contributed to this release played a part in saving it—literally. Had the initial success been any lower, it wouldn't have reached a spot visible enough to survive this storm. So thank you.
And as far as my wishes for this release are concerned, uhm. What's there left to say? This is miles ahead of anything I could even dare to hope for.
As for my Patreon supporters, sowwy for for being a little absent uwu. Given that my heart was on the verge of exploding I was a little too distracted to write to say the least. But I'm more than enthusiastic now. I'm fucking HYPED. See y'all soon. Expect a steep jump in the quality of uploads. I have no excuse not to put 110% of myself into this series now.

Not sure what investment options are open to you readily over there, but long term (10+ years), indexed mutual funds are a good example of boring but mostly safe investments. For example S&P 500 indexed mutual fund from Vanguard or Fidelity are a decent example.

Yeah, the release threw my whole ass life out of whack, so I'm struggling to refocus. I kinda lost mental track of where I was headed so I needed to step back a bit and reanalyze my plotting before continuing. Don't worry, I'll be back soon. Hopefully a chapter is out by tomorrow. If not then crucify me or something idk LOL

By not investing you are gambling anyways. Just interest rate and unstable economies are enough to reduce the value of your money without you doing anything. At least if you loan that money to a mutual fund. you'll get a good percentage of interest. More than any certified deposit could ever give you. I mean it is your money and your life, but my mom didn't listen and is why she would have to leave retirement if not because of me. Her certified deposit of 100k of 5 years ago is not even worth 80k now. Interest the bank gave her was 2.4%. The whole time we could have flipped that money 80 times, but her paranoia and pessimism blocked her foresight. Think about the future

I live in Bosnia and Herzegovina so real estate is very cheap. I'll be getting an apartment and I won't have to get into debt to afford it. As for investments, I'm about as boring of a guy as they come. I have no plans to gamble my life savings!

I would avoid debt or stacking extra work on top of being an author, and being a landlord is both. Keep investments boring, avoid debt with the possible exception of buying a house for your family, drink plenty of water, get exercise and eat your veggies to avoid medical debt. On buying a house: If you've only been making this amount of money writing for less than a year, you probably can't get a loan just yet: The loan office treats self-employed differently, and want to see 2 at least years of self-employment income. Never treat investment like gambling. if you find yourself considering doubling down on something because it's SURE to go up, then you're gambling. Buy and hold. There are financial professionals that can help you out with finding boring ways to invest. I haven't done it, but that's because I'm stupid. ALSO! the massive spike in cash you're currently getting on KDP is going to drop by about 30% month-over month, so it might seem like a lot right now, but it WILL dry up until book 2 comes out. Don't let that mess you up, and don't spend like it'll last forever. cuz it won't.

After following along this long, I'm glad to see your success. In my experience, book releases will continue to be nerve wracking for at least 5 years, but just a little bit less apocalyptic than the one before each time. You should be numb to it in your late thirties.

Word of advice. If you got some money, invest it properly. Buy a portfolio at BlackRock or state street. Buy some stocks. Put a downpayment on a house and rent it. All three or one of the three. just made sure to diversify

Also the reason our protag grows so quickly is nbecause of lifestel also stealing a litttle bit of essence right?
