The Fat Duck
🕑 Added 2016-05-07 17:55:05 +0000 UTC Bray, a place in Berkshire, is quite odd. It's a village in the UK with a population of around 8,000 people (around 1/1000th of London). Yet somehow it contains two of the four 3 Michelin Starred restaurants in the whole of the UK.Last week I finished my holiday off with a visit to one of them.
The Fat Duck is quite possibly the most insane restaurant in the world. It seats 40, yet has a kitchen staff of 42. It has been named the best restaurant in the world, and was the fastest restaurant in the UK to get three Michelin stars. It is run by Heston Blumenthal (a man closer to Willy Wonka than Marco Pierre White) and features a 17 course taster menu, a story and a crap tonne of surprises.
I love food. I love experimenting with food and coming up with some crazy stuff. Heston is the King of it. During the 4 hours it took me to eat there I ate an English Breakfast in cereal form, a gold fob watch that dissolved into a Mock Turtle Soup and a tiny Twister ice cream made from Horseradish and Salmon. Every course is something new, every dish was something strange. That little chicken nugget in from of me in that picture? That was a meat pie.
Seriously.
I think I may do a small Toys video on some of the souvenirs I took from that place. That cereal I mentioned earlier? It came in a silly multi-pack box that we could choose from a packet of 6. What was the toy in that cereal packet? A small wooden puzzle box... With my logo carved into it. I didn't know if I should laugh or run away screaming.
The downside of all this is the price. £255 per person. That doesn't include a 12.5% tip or drinks either. It's a very expensive night out. Happily I had some money saved over from my Dalek so I added it to my holiday. ELO, Roger Hodgson and the Fat Duck for less than a holiday abroad. Works for me!
Oh and after the meal I proposed to my wonderful Rebecca, she said yes and we're engaged.
Pretty good night I'd say.
