🕑 Added 2023-07-20 17:34:01 +0000 UTCLast week, Alexandra noticed that the lights from Vignelli's ball were shining out to sea (against his own explicit rules demanding darkness after sundown). When confronted, however, Vignelli didn't seem concerned. So Alexandra imagined that perhaps the whole pirate threat was an elaborate fabrication on Vignelli's part, and that there was indeed no reason for the town to worry. It's the only way she could explain why he would let the lights shine. Except there is another, truer explanation, which we explore this week.

Notes on this week's pages!
- "You're a monster, how does no one see that?" is a question I have wondered quietly to myself with increasing frequency in recent years.
- Writing nasty dialogue is such a sweet challenge and so, so enjoyable.
- During the colour process, I can often be surprised by how a panel turns out. I'd love to say "they always turn out exactly how I imagined them!" but that's not true. I trust in my principles and methods to lead me to the final image. However, the bottom panel on the second page above (the boat silhouette) is exactly how I imagined and hoped it would look and I'm possibly too pleased with the outcome.
- In my mind, the spooky mist was always green, so I started painting it using exclusively green hues. On a lark, though, I painted a layer which subtly shifts the colour of the green, giving it a bit of a rainbow quality. It unfortunately also adds a "photoshoppy" look — something I try to avoid — but it gives such a nice depth to the spooky mist that it gets to stay.
