Skipping this for a while. I’ve actually never seen the bulk of these movies even though I did see the first one and really liked it. I recently listened to some new podcast where two sisters ranked the series and I thought to myself, I should check them all out.

I'm looking forward to MI: DR 2! I've liked all of the MI movies, though I think the series really comes into it's own after MI: 3. I'll always be a Bond Fan, but Tom made these movies be unique, without being 007 knock-offs, which I appreciate. I have say, and I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I find Tom is a great actor. No matter what he's in, I see the character he's portraying and not a Movie Star. Same as with Tom Hanks and Robert DeNiro. (I know I'm going to get razzed, but so be it)

I didn't connect to any of them THAT much to be honest. But there's some great set pieces and action moments in each. These are the kind of movies I put on while I'm multi-tasking. And yeah I get very confused later. lol. The third one has a great performance by Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

I am generally able to enjoy movies despite suspecting/knowing that those involved are bad people. I also fully respect those who feel otherwise. What starts annoying me is being lectured that I should not be enjoying those movies.* (This was a general statement; that was NOT what aarswft was doing.)

The second one I would skip for a rewatch, but if you haven't seen it yet you should give it a try. It's very 2000s and John Woo, and very different from the rest.

Just listended to one of the podcasts and found out Carly was a 7th grad math teacher for a little bit. I'd have to say, if I was one of her students, I would've either been her best pupil ever and staying after school to have her teach me more advanced work or, most likely, I would've been her worst student ever and staying after school extra help. Either way, I would've worked a deal to stay after school for 1:1 tutoring 🤣

Considering he's been playing the same character in every movie (except Tropic Thunder) for the last 25 years - what difference does it make? He'll just change character names and do the same crap in another movie. Run around, do his own stunts and surround himself with short actors.

To be fair you don't have to think an actor is a good person to enjoy their films. The Cruiser could have spent decades pushing his personal agenda into his movies but instead left his personal stuff at home and just made great entertainment. The last great movie star

It should be noted that Christian Bale based his performance of Patrick Bateman in American Psycho on an interview Tom Cruise did. He wanted to portray Bateman as intensely happy but with absolutely nothing behind his eyes.

I think he does genuinely think he's helping others. So there's that...and it gives him a bit of a pass. But yeah there's a lot of toxic in it.

Absolutely not. But I saw a documentary on it and they talked about their communication techniques quite a bit. They're taught to bore holes through your forehead with their eyes. lol

They don't give us much time to get to know or care about the characters. It's a lot of this person is lying to this person and this group is scheming to screw this group with this secret, blah blah blah. I tune a lot of it out.

I was so bored when I tried to watch this movie (not the reaction, I couldn’t put myself thru this movie again) that I actually quit halfway thru. That’s very rare for me. It was just sound and fury masquerading as a story.

I have heard stories like that about a couple of celebrities including Tom. They have an uncanny gift of making you instantly feel like you have 100% of their attention when they talk to you. I met Bradley Cooper while walking in an airport. We talked for like 30 seconds while getting to our gates. It was like that, such natural charisma.

Sometimes people need to step back and remember Tom Cruise is not a good person. He's charming and can be very kind to people unless they cross his cult, and then it turns very ugly. He's personally been involved with ruining many lives. Judge a man by how his children think of him, not how Hollywood tells you to.
