“Wait, Joe.” He grabbed his arm. “Are you sure you want to go after him?”

“If he leaves, we stay here, on our owns… Are you sure you want to leave this place?”
Jonas was shook.
“Adam… Come on! I know you want to go. You were right when I put out the fire. This was a mistake.”
“I’m not so sure…”
“We have to. History told us there might be no other opportunity. What if one of us gets hurt in here? What if the storms get worse?”
“All right…”
“Babe, it’s your call but we might be blowing it right now.”
“Fuck! You’re right, let’s go! Let’s try to convince him to help us.”
The boys started running after Fernando while he was already on his tiny sailboat, trying to get it on the water.
They had wasted some precious time.

Using a map, Fernando showed them exactly where they were, and Adam was shocked.
They were miles away from their starting point in Mancora, on Peru's northern coast. The only way they could have reached that spot was by driving the motorboat full blast in the opposite direction, up north, for hours.
It was definitely what had happened but he had no recollection of this.

Another big turn of events was that Fernando had a way to communicate with the outside world.

“How did the shipwreck happen exactly?”
“We're not really sure. We went on an excursion, and we lost control of the boat and of its direction. We got lost in the ocean and then we drifted until we ran out of fuel. Then, there was a storm and we found an island.”
Adam decided it would be best not to mention the mushrooms.
Jonas had a sick feeling in the pit of his stomach.
Obviously, he had told Adam to go for it and to take the opportunity to leave the damn place, but now, it was going way too quickly.
The cave, the beach camp, the raft… Soon, they would no longer mean anything.

The team that eventually arrived consisted of dozens of people, including medics.
They were seen by two different doctors immediately. At least, they spoke English.
“We’re fine, we swear!”

He did not want to be separated from Jonas, not even for a second.
But he agreed because it was silly to fight about it. Literally, it was just a matter of minutes, the ocean was calm, they would be fine.
Jonas came to hug him.
It was their very last minute on the island.
“Once we're on that ship, it’ll be over for real.”
“What… What would be over, Joe?”
“This adventure. I mean, being castaway.”
“We should have said goodbye to the island."
“It's not the island that I'll miss...” Jonas muttered, tears in his eyes.
“Guys, are you ready?”
“Yes… Yes, we are.”
"See you on the other side, Adam.”
"Yes, see you on the other side, Joe.”

I hope you have a sequel coming, “Stranded, On The Other Side” Where it talks about their secret lives together and how they sneak around with each other and take another trip with each other, like a camping weekend or a mountain cabin getaway.
