Much appreciate the communication, and honestly sponsors don't really affect me since I got an extension that autoskips sponsors, and well I'm already donating so that should probably more than make up for my lost revenue

Vince Oliver

Idgaf if you do sponsored ads, I doubt most of your preexisting fan base will either. Ill say I strongly prefer when they’re at the end of the video, or are short and sweet (under 15 seconds) ad. Its annoying when I click on a video and it’s a full minute of someone talking about some bullshit. As for patrons only content—maybe a patrons only discord or the occasional patrons only Twitch stream. A podcast would be really cool but to really do that well it’s a lot of effort, not sure you’d wanna lock that behind a paywall

Alexander Rankl

When i fiets olayed it recently I DIDN'T KNOW how to use those Up and Down Barrels it was so confusing but I eventually found out how to do it but I think it sucks xD

Bester

It's still great to have you back! Keep your projects fun and something YOU want to work on. Perfection is the death of creativity.

Ahegaotv

RadicalSoda and JohnTron make the best and hilarious sponsor adverts in their vids. I love rads more because he is so incredibly creative with so little to work with. His work out one he did is amazing. Anyway go for some sponsors just make them integrated and entertaining/funny.

Hey man, I really appreciate you replying. Honestly, hearing that you ARE thinking of how you can make it feel in-line does kinda relieve some worry. I'll def stick around if you do to see HOW you do it, and I think you should only endorse products you believe in, don't whore out, etc. Anyways, keep on keepin on.

Cybershell

I appreciate your candor and I don't hold it against you or anyone else who wants to unpatron. I have a lot of the same worries as you to be honest, I'm thinking about how could I best integrate ads into my content without it feeling super jarring or out of place. You can either just make it as quick and painless as possible or actually try to make them entertaining, I also immediately thought of Internet Historian as an example of a guy who does it right. I hope someday I can convince you to pledge to the patreon again, however to do that I'll probably need to buckle down and figure out a way to produce some high quality patron-only content. I feel like for something like a podcast it's no big deal to just record a bonus episode for patrons but for me the idea of researching, scripting, and editing an entire video JUST for patrons seems like a bad idea. I'm going to have to figure out something that works for me, maybe some patron exclusive shorter videos or possibly experiment with some longer form podcast type content of my own.

I'm happy for the update, take all the time you need. As for the question about sponsors, I'm actually in the deep minority here where I'd probably unsub (from patreon, not yt I love your stuff too much). I wouldn't hate you for it or anything but it's just a more personal feeling where I really don't like sponsored bits at all, the only person that really does them well is InternetHistorian. I don't wanna discourage you or make you feel bad when I bring up these points, again you are an amazing creator. I just feel sponsored bits especially don't fit with the flow of your videos where they feel very formal like you're directly talking to someone about something you care enough deeply to make a video about. From the start to end is really well paced, relevant stream of info so having an ad after like a min or in the middle would feel REALLY jarring. As for at the end I mean I guess that doesn't matter at all I know it's the easiest to skip but those usually feel the most shoehorned of them all. Anyways, I don't want this whole comment to feel like a negative message so again, glad to see you posting again! I love all your new stuff even the non-Sonic stuff I originally didn't care about like the FFVII speedrun or the DK64 one. Looking forward for the Sonic 3 bonus video in 6 years.

Jesus fucking christ fine I'll look into XLR literally every goddamn youtuber I watch uses XLR now I guess they're the thing. As for sponsors, I would say I don't mind but don't do it NOW. People are still very, very gunshy around you leaving, especially after no October upload. It might have been a slightly better tactic to keep some of the daily upload videos in your back pocket for exactly this kind of thing but what's done is done. Don't mind if in the future but definitely make sure people know you're *back* before doing it.

Re: sponsors, they're definitely normalized by now, but a good way to make them less painless is to make them funny somehow. Internet Comment Etiquette does sketches that are a few minutes long that can be funny, but also admittedly a bit cringy. Brutal Moose does some funny ones as well, that are shorter and easier to get through. Alternatively just throwing them at the end of the video is always good so people know they can just turn off the video without needing to sit through them.

Man, I'm just glad to have an update. Take all the time you need to get those videos done. I'm personally very pumped to hear your take on the whole Sonic 3 prototype stuff. When they first came to light, I kept thinking how nice it would be if Cybershell talked about it, so I'm glad it's happening soon. Also, as a sound engineer myself, I'm pretty excited to hear your new and improved audio.

rtil

>it's not actually that fun to me just to spend an entire video complaining unless it's something I'm weirdly passionate about That's what I figured - especially considering how in depth you can get in your reviews. I can't blame you on the Penders thing, either. Thanks for the reply.

Sayonara Elegy

In my opinion, if you have a following on Youtube and you want to monetize, secure the bag or you're leaving potential money on the table, it's hard to lose respect for people who run sponsors when it's a key part of how Youtubers keep the lights on with the days of wild-west monetization all but gone. I don't really give a shit man, i'll still watch no matter what, get that money king, or whatever the zoomers say

Cybershell

I never want to make a video *specifically* dunking on Ken Penders or with his name in the title for the very simple reason that he would probably end up seeing it and then I would have to actually interact with him, which I would really prefer not to do. As for Forces I think I talked about it on the Jeffrey 6 Podcast episode I appeared on but it's more like I just feel like I don't have anything super substantial to say about the game. It sucks, but basically for all the reasons everyone already knows. It's not a glitchy disaster like Sonic 06 but it's so painfully mediocre and boring that it's not even fun to bitch about. I'm not ruling out ever talking about it, but I can't see myself making a "Forces" video any time soon. Despite my reputation as le Sonic 4 man it's not actually that fun to me just to spend an entire video complaining unless it's something I'm weirdly passionate about like SADX. If you want to watch a good video on why Forces sucks check out "How Sonic Forces Fails at Immersion" by SplashDash.

rtil

i'm curious - are there any Sonic related topics you *never* want to cover? I know a lot of people are clamoring for a video dunking on things like Ken Penders or Sonic Forces, but I don't think I've ever seen you make a comment about either.

PeakWheat

I love you

GET. SPONSORS. Seriously, there is absolutely no fucking reason youtubers should be shamed into not using sponsors. Yes, its annoying for the viewer. Yes its totally fake and no one believes the stuff you are shilling is actually any good and yes, you will feel dirty for talking about how the The Canyonero combines the smooth handling of a European sports car with the rugged drivability of a sturdy 4x4. But guess what? You aren't a corporation who isn't paying its staff. You aren't a shitty games company making billions and then adding adverts inside the games people already spent $60 on (fuck off MBA). You are a creator making fantastic video that bring joy to peoples lives, whos only avenue for money is A: Patreon, hoping people dont cancel their pledge. B: Youtube, fucking kill me their monetization model is slowly falling apart. And C: Sponsors. No one loses out when you have a sponsor, everyone wins. You get more money and your fans know not to download some bullshit freemium game and skip the first 30 seconds. Karljobst uses sponsors, InternetHistorian uses sponsors. Just do it. Anyway... rant over. Can I ask two questions, have you watched Moral Orel? And will you make any other "forum" stories videos? I fucking love these kinds of videos, getting nostalgic and deepdiving into mid 2000's and 2010's forum culture and talking about these tiny things most people dont care about, but I do. Whang does them as well and I fucking love them. Especially the ones about old NuMetal and PS1 shit.

BillehBawb

Take sponsorships if you want, but I will warn you that for some of the more iffy sponsors like RAID and such people can have negative reactions. I would only recommend doing it if its a company you actually are wanting to endorse and if they are paying you well.

gnar

I'm not a big Sonic fan but your SA1 comparison video really resonated with me. I've watched a lot more since then but just want to say thanks for the uploads, I'll probably find anything you make really entertaining.

NytroArtwork

Id say take some sponsorships, whats the worst that can happen. Its just potentially more money in your pocket lol. Cant wait for the Bonus video. So glad you're back man.

Seth Beattie

As everyone else said you should definitely do a poll on some suggestions if you looking for them. Plus anything non sonic related would be welcome. You're recent non-sonic related videos are actually some of my favorites now. Thanks for the update

Cybershell

Yeah I have a few ideas but I'm hesitant to put them out there since I don't want to get peoples' hopes up if I end up changing my mind, but I'm more than willing to hear any potential ideas you guys might have for future videos. And yeah if I am struggling to decide between topics I'd be happy to gauge interest by asking you guys (possibly with yet another strawpoll (that's right I'll NEVER use the real patreon poll function)).

Sunnyfruit

Lara-Su Shitpost desperately needed t. Your patrons

Cannon M. Byrd

What other videos are you looking do after the bonus video, are you looking for suggestions?

Felipe Oñate

Nice to have an update. I was wondering if you have any ideas on other videos you'd like to tackle after the bonus video, otherwise maybe you could gauge some interest for topics in here?

Blodskaal

As long as it’s not raid shadow legends *kidding*

Dialga236
