NASA originally used to get rid of their satellites by sending fucking missiles that literally ended up making high speed debris orbit the Earth more often than actually sending the debris from the sat back down 😭 and if I remember correctly, there was an entire separate agency dedicated to this method, but it was more a cover for experimenting with weapons in space prior to the outer space proliferation treaty from the late sixties

My therapist fell in love with me and I first saw him when I was 17 so this is triggering lol. I did not understand that it wasn't normal for your therapist to call you his best friend, hug you, tell you you're the smartest person ever, etc. Thankfully he recognized it in time and stopped seeing me. I didn't understand and got super hurt for a while. Like Will said, abandonment. Ironically the same thing happened to my mom at 17. She started seeing a therapist after her mom killed herself and he hit on her and they started dating. Which is so much worse.

People don't realize the difference between a therapist (psychologist) & a psychiatrist, it seems. Therapists listen to you yap about your problems. Psychiatrists prescribe meds. Psychiatric appointments are only supposed to be 15 minutes or less. (I am a medical biller, so this is my whole job.)

They listen to beats first and then they try to find a flow and melody to the song or they make the melody first. After that he tries to plugin in bars into the flow. I have ADHD too (medicated), and I'm in the mental health field. Medication is the "first-line treatment" for ADHD, meaning it's the gold standard. That being said, meds aren't for everyone. Some CAN'T take stimulants for medical reasons (e.g., those who also have bipolar disorder); others feel better without meds and can function with other strategies alone. It's an individual choice, but it's a good idea to try meds first and experiment with different doses/meds (with your doctor) before deciding not to take them at all. (This doesn't apply to Will, who already tried meds before deciding not to stay on them!)

It's normal to see a psychiatrist monthly so they can monitor how the medications are working and adjust accordingly. Seeing a psychiatrist once and then going to a gp is not normal haha. Rarely anyone with real mental health issues will go to a gp! That's an old school thought process. Regardless, she is straight up delusional and I feel so bad for the psychiatrist.

I was diagnosed with adhd in high school after having it my whole childhood and when I finally went on meds it made me shake so much and I couldn’t stop. It helped me focus, but I also was not a super interested student in general. I stopped after 2 years because I couldn’t handle it anymore and when I got to college and started learning stuff I cared about I focused just as well as when I was on meds. Fully up to the person to decide what works for them.

PSA: You should be going to a psychiatrist for psych meds (or being used for off-label psych purposes). Primary care managers just are not regularly educated in psych meds and often leads to misdiagnosis or taking significantly longer to find the right meds for you. Also psych meds are always always always supposed to be paired with therapy. I get if there're insurance or life complications but the ideal use of psych meds are paired with therapy.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing mental health issues and have the ability to prescribe medication. Psychologists hold PhD's in psychology but are not medical doctors so they are usually specialists in a certain type of psychological practice but they do not have the ability to prescribe medications. Going to GP for psych stuff is like going to a GP for a torn rotator cuff. They can tell you it's a strained muscle and get you pain meds but you want to see a specialist to know what exactly happened and the best ways to treat it if it doesn't heal with meds and rest or it is not obvious to the GP what the issue is. Moreover, with controlled substances like adhd meds (Kendra says she was on a non stimulant but later says she was on vyvanse which is 100% a stimulant), after what happened with the opioid crisis, a lot of GP's will send you to a psychiatrist because they don't feel comfortable writing scripts for someone who isn't under the specialized care of someone in the field. The fact that Kendra was seeing him every month for 3 years tells me that the psychiatrist knew she was not stable and felt she had to be closely monitored. If medication is working and the patient is stable, you typically only see a psychiatrist every 3 months especially if you are seeing a therapist weekly in conjunction with medication. My guess is that the psychiatrist knew she had a borderline presentation and knew that she was going to need to be supported in a way that seems more involved than typical patients. Where as if someone like me with depression were to start showing signs of neediness and attachment , they might have a conversation with me about boundaries and transference because they would understand that I could have that conversation without disrupting the dynamic because my issue isn't based on problematic attachment. When those issues are present, verbalizing hard boundaries can be misinterpreted as shame or rejection so the psychiatrist has to use other methods the maintain emotional boundaries while also giving the patient autonomy to explore their own interpretations in a safe place. Basically, issues that stem from attachment or dysfunction personality integration are super challenging to manage because interpersonal dynamics are involved in an unhealthy way and it makes the doctor patient dynamic blurry.
