Cats do need structure too. Mine eat half their daily food in the morning and the other at night. Since they were kittens they’ve been on a hunt(play), eat, sleep schedule. After ‘hunting’ the rightful next step would be that they eat their kill, or their cat food in this case. After that they’re warn out and they’ll be snoozing for hours. 😅They also get supervised outside time, but that isn’t necessary, they just like it.

I know you want to think that I'm just a moron but these are treatments that are often offered in Dermatology offices by dermatologists. Diluted cortisone injections are not some sort of back alley medical procedures they are administered by professionals for the purpose of reducing inflammatory acne. A) Don't free feed your cats, its better to give them meals so you can monitor their health. Such as one not getting enough and the other getting too much. It also makes the bond between you and them better. If you want some citation that isnt a rando online look up Jackson Galaxy, he used to do the "Cats from Hell" show but now has his own youtube on looking after cats. B) You don't only wash your hand in case you get piss directly on them, you also wash them because you spray piss particles everywhere especially if you stand, so you wash those particles off your hands. as a cat owner, 10000% you can feed your cats on a schedule (and you should - they love routine!), it just takes effort if you have been free feeding them and they are used to that. free feeding is the easiest way to make cats older than kitten age gain too much weight. also feeding them more wet food over dry food can help with weight and give them more hydration

You can absolutely feed cats separately. It's just more effort. We have 4 cats and one is on a diet food and another has to be fed smaller portions. So we have three separate rooms where the cats go to for timed feedings. Pain in the ass for us but it works

As someone who had to feed my cats separate for a while, it's possible just annoying. I'd put one in a room with his food close the door and feed the other in the kitchen. They’re animals, they respond to structure and rules WHEN ENFORCED, like all animals (humans included). FYI the reason you are supposed to wash your hands after using the restroom is that when gas is passed, microscopic poop particles come out with the gas. Even if you do not notice gas passing, this happens. Essentially, your downstairs area is usually contaminated due to the nature of gas. Touching these areas, even briefly, while using the restroom means you are very likely to have poop particles on your hands afterwards.

QT my dad always put the dry food on the counter - if a cats too fat to jump up to it they lose weight quick and it keeps it open access for the cat that doesn’t have the control problem. For those replying, this is just general advice to get the cat to work a little bit harder for their food. I personally have my cats dry food on an automatic feeder and if I had two cats, I would have automatic feeders on opposite sides of the house. But that’s how my dad kept my cats from getting too overweight when we were kids so again, just general advice.

Ok with love and peace…. Cats definitely can have feeding times I have a tuxedo and a Maine Coon and I feed them both twice a day and they don’t get any food outside of that aside from a treat ones in a blue. They come to there bowls and know they don’t get food until they sit in front of there bowl. It helps manage their diet and weight. It does take some time investment as they will hold you to the feeding times but it’s part of the responsibility of being a pet owner. Not judging those that didn’t know that’s a common practice I just want to make sure it’s known that you can manage their diet with a little time dedication.

Hopefully this is constructive - if you are gonna free feed your cats, try a puzzle feeder. Working for the food burns calories and will keep Coots's tiny brain busy. That said I've always had structured meal times for my cats and I separate my two current boys (the little one is a bully and the big one is a pushover).

Someone needs to tell QT she can get bowls that only open for the designated cat. I think it works with their chip? My aunt and uncle did that for their cats because one of them kept eating out of the others bowl and it helped him get back down to a healthy weight. It also allowed them to give him different food than the other cat.

Austin and QT, look into Petlibro RFID Cat Feeders! I live with 4 cats that all have special diets and it helped to stop the cats from mixing up diet foods

I don't know whether or not it's *wrong* to fatshame a fascist but I do know that I'm a listener working through body dysmorphia in therapy and hearing Austin's fatshaming sucks. I wish he wouldn't do it. Everyone is free to yell at me for being a pussy, I'm not telling anyone what to do, just sharing my feelings. On the flipside, it was through watching Will's gym streams in Austin that I started lifting weights and this week I'm finally seeing bicep definition in my arms. Thanks Will for making the gym less anxiety-inducing.

You can feed cats separately and you can feed them different foods. Yes it can be hard especially if they're used to a certain way. But there are ways to do it you just have to commit to it and it might take a long time but you can make it work. If you really need to start doing that especially for health reasons don't give up! You can do it. It might feel like it's impossible but trust me, your pet has to eat. So if you're like you're only going to eat at this time and this time and I'm not going to leave any dry food out for you they will not starve. Work with your vet and come up with the plan :-) good luck!

I trained my adopted cats to follow my rules. Austin needs to carry a small spray around everytime the cats starts annoying him, begging for extra food. Pet obesity kills, their spines are not built to carry chonks. I cant believe they cant get automated feeders or invest few minutes or days to monitor and correct stealing food from the other cat. This is so easy. Poor unhealthy cats.

My cats are chipped and have bowls that will only open for their individual chips. Could be an option for Coots. They also include a tag you can hang from a collar if they're not chipped.
