With that, Mom handed me a neatly wrapped box. I eagerly tore off the wrapping and opened it to reveal a shiny new iPhone. A grin spread across my face as I noticed it was still sealed in plastic. They hadn’t put any parental restrictions on it!
Overcome with gratitude, I hugged both of them tightly. “Thank you so much for everything! This means a lot to me,” I said, my voice sincere.
After that, I tried to bring up how I had applied to a non-Christian college, but it was difficult to get a word in. They quickly shifted back to their plans for tomorrow, and then back to their church activites and I felt a mix of appreciation and frustration.
