I have to admit it feels so heartbreaking in hindsight yet also heartwarming: seeing Beverly accept that Wes doesn't feel right doing Starfleet stuff when Wil's mother always gaslit Wil about acting. Why heartwarming as well? Not only does Wil seem to support Ryan and Nolan whatever they do, but Gates being called "Space Mom" on Facebook by Wil, and being called Space Mom In Law by Anne on Twitter, always makes me feel happy.

hmm, I didn't see Dr. Crusher's reaction as bad to Wesley telling her he wanted out of Starfleet. An initial 1 minute of shock is perfectly normal. Wesley was definitely in the wrong here in how he approached things, and he definitely does owe his mother at least an explanation of what's going on. It'd be different if his mother wasn't there for him and loved him, but she is, and does.

My reaction when it was first broadcast was that it was too on the nose with the Native storyline. But, being about 4ish years older than Wil Wheaton and Wesley, I completely believed he could make such a swift about face and leave Starfleet. I still feel the same way about both. Not the best episode, but a good farewell to a character I related to at the time.

As a devout season 7 lover, this might be my least favorite episode of the season - and not because it's a "Wesley episode." It just feels a bit slow and tad heavy handed. But more than that, I wasn't a fan of the abrupt shift in Wesley's character. While I'm not a fan of forcing yourself to live up to others' expectations, Wesley never came off as someone who didn't genuinely want to be in Starfleet. Additionally, the whole "traveler" story never appealed to me from the beginning - It felt like a plot device to make it more "believable" that a teenager would be such a prodigy on a starship Frankly, I always felt "Last Mission" with Picard and Wesley was a much better "Sendoff" for the character!

SPOILERS for Picard I really wish would follow through on the cameo from season 2. That was one of my favorite things Star Trek has done in a long time. Connecting two loose threads like that in such a clever way that makes sense. I'd love to see a series with Wesley and Kore Soong. Kind of a cross between Quantum Leap and Doctor Who.

Ahh, probably the most dated thing about 90's Trek: its portrayal and treatment of Native Americans/First Nations. They hired a consultant to help them out, but did not do thorough research, and thus, did not know he was a con man bullshitting "Indian Traditions" out his ass. Plus the fraking pan flutes whenever "Indian Mysticism" crops up. And yes, referring to them as "Indians." Lol. "War is so f#$king stupid... Anyway, the next show we're watching is all about war." Lords I hope you Gals can get through BSG without it breaking something. Oh, and what an interesting counterpoint the the episode "The Ensigns of Command" where Data must convince an accidental colony to leave, lest they be eradicated by the Shelliack and Data just blows the heck out of their pumping station.

Random fact, the actor who plays the Cardassian captain in this episode is one of only 3 or 4 actors who appears on each of TNG, DS9, and Voyager as the same character. One of the other ones is in the next episode.

Well, my vote has always been for Gallifrey Girls Get Fracked! It's the heavily used curse word they came up with on BSG, so they could curse on cable TV. It does have the same definitions of its IRL similar sounding counterpart, so Gallifrey Girls Get Fracked! could have a dirty meaning. I still like it. Of course, it all depends on what you two nerds prefer.

Troi's knowledge about the 1680 Pueblo Revolt isn't entirely out of place. If you recall from season 6's "A Fistful of Datas": WORF: Deanna, how do you know so much about this period in Earth's history? TROI: My father used to read me stories from the Ancient West when I was a little girl. I must admit, I always wanted to play the part of the mysterious stranger.

We all hold out hope the Gals will watch/revisit DS9 one day, on their own if not as a duo. Kat strikes me as a completionist, so I think Kat will get around to it one day (for no other reason than to be a well-rounded Trekkie), and despite not caring for it on her first watch-through, Paula has gained new, deeper perspective from rewatching Trek episodes in the past (e.g., "The Inner Light"), so Paula may flip views on DS9, too. Who knows; as Spock said, "there are always possibilities"...

One of the reasons I enjoy rewatching this series with the Gals is that they can sometimes take an episode that I really don't care for and give me a new window on it. This still isn't going to be one of my favorite episodes or anything, but it gives me a new appreciation for some of the things I maybe didn't before. I personally didn't love this direction for Wesley's character. It just felt a little abrupt. But I did really like the part where he realized that he was only doing what he was doing because of the expectations of his parents and everybody around him and that he had to chose his own path. I went through something very similar myself.

Good to hear BSG won the poll; gives me a reason to remain a patron (full disclosure: I would not have stayed for that muppet-y Aussie nonsense). A fun send-off for Wesley; he gets to travel time and space with his weird alien friend, while his mother worries if he packed clean underwear. Great stuff!

A nice send-off fir Wesley. A good episode, even if the situation is a bit in the nose using Native Americans. ST: TOS was well known for using a velvet hammer to get the point across.

Interestingly, this episode leads directly into a DS9 2 part episode called "The Maquis" which picks up this narrative of this border dispute. This is all to set up one of the aspects of Voyager. This crossover of storylines is probably, partially, why DS9 got pushed so hard to be concurrent. But c'est la vie.
