Prior to the rule of the British Raj South Asia used a series of customary unwritten customs that allowed de facto female land ownership. This was swept away by the British orientalist fetish of codifying Sharia and Shastras into common law. Would it have been better if those human+drug traffickers codified customary laws of 17th cent South Asia and not the Iron age shastras+sharia. Or should South Asia continued its use of Customary Law into the modern day?
