Exploring the Black Country on my bike (and drinking with the locals)

Afternoon $4 Patreons!
This week I decided to do what I did when I was 11 and jump on my bike and explore. The idea was simple. Head west towards the Black Country where I aimed to meet the famously broad and incredibly witty locals and sample their local beer and food. Standing between me and the heart of the black country though were a string of "rough" estates, each one more notorious than the last. I was warned about going to these places as a kid, so it was time to see what all the fuss was about.
To be honest this turned out to be quite a chilled video and slightly differently to what I'd planned. The housing estates were fairly quiet on this sunny Monday morning, but it was in the pubs and cafe's that the video came into it's own!
See if you can pick out the following local words, unique to the area:
ay - ain't
am - are
ar - yeah
day - didn't
doe - don't
woe - won't
wore - wasn't
car/core - can't
Let me know your thoughts in the comments everyone. Who had the strongest accent?

I know I'm late watching this but it makes me want to do a similar thing cycling through richmond, california near where I live and see how bad of an area I can end up in

That really was a weird looking cat. I had that thought right before you said it.

As a Geordie who lives in Scotland, it's so funny that I've been in that Spoons! My wife's grandad lives in Wednesbury and swears by it!

Tom, you might want to put out a youtube video about the issues with Patreon. I had to cancel my membership and resubscribe as my payment didn't go through on 1st August.

The Bald and Bankrupt comparison comment killed me hahaha

Thank you for your support Nadja!
tom davies
Thanks Stuart! to be honest the idea of falling in the canal was not the worst thing in the world! roasting!
tom davies
Amazing! surely I have to wait a little while and pump it up before I can ride?
Nadja
Delightful as always, Tom. Also, big thanks to the lads in the Reddit community! ❤️ Switching to $1 tier then back to $4 fixed Patreon's idiocy and brought the content back.

Always quality over quantity. Wins every day.

That video was so much fun. I really enjoy the authenticity of it. Nothing is played up or faked for views, just pure real life. Plus you’re brave cycling down a skinny path next to a canal after having four (three and a half?) beers. Brave man!
Jason Kenway
Thanks Tom. Slime tubes, just keep riding and they seal up, as you found out the hard way.

Well, I still live a couple of streets from where (I think) you were brought up, so the amount of times I've walked over it over the years into 'the village' doesn't really bear thinking about! As for Showcase, no don't go to the cinema often any more and when I do I go to the Light, but shocked and saddened to see it wasn't there any more. One of those places I didn't expect to see go for a while I guess. I'm old enough to remember when it opened, and effectively replaced the fleapit where the Art Gallery is now. (Oh, I ate at Fatty's a few times too, I remember winning one of their eating challenges for a prize of a t-shirt I couldn't even dream of getting into. Yes, I was a big lad of course, but I suspected so too wwas anyone else that completed it!)

That's great to hear Storpey! it doesn't take hardly any effort really, just a bit of initial bravery/confidence to get into the swing of it!
tom davies
Thanks Lard, the croft is my spiritual home. Almost shed a tear at Showcase. Incredibly nostalgic.
tom davies
Thanks Dustin! it hasn't been as often as I'd aimed for but I'm striving to give you good content!
tom davies
I haven't, but maybe I should head in that direction for my next tenner in my pocket?
tom davies
Yeah inspirational!

Cheers Ashley!

All this stuff is increasingly becoming my most beloved YouTube watches. An adventure that genuinely inspires me to step out of my insular comfort zone and communicate with other people on a very human level. Thanks for this, Tom!
LordLard
Fun Watch thanks Tom. Still live round the dcortner from the Croft. Loved the storror bit at the end. Totally missed that Showcase had shut :-(

Or reckon you could do the Malvern Hills, North to South, in a day.

Have you ever thought of doing something in Herefordshire, Tom? Lots of cider to try, bit further between pubs though!
