That's fair! I probably think we didn't pay that part of the flashback as much attention as we should have.

Also as far as Mai and Zukos relationship we did see that they liked each other even when they were younger in a flashback during S2. The hostility and awkwardness are kind of all coming from Zuko at this point as well with how messed up his head is after the S2 finale

This episode is so important for humanizing characters that are from the fire nation and is huge for learning that maybe Azula isn't as mentally invincible as she appears to be. I think she does care what her mother thought about her and maybe if Azula wasnt forced to spend all her time with the firelord maybe she wouldn't have turned out the way she did.
