Blood & Fur Chapter 77: The Third Sun

Yuval Roth

I don't think you are supposed to get any name normally.

Hussar L

Awe inspiring chapter! I'm thunderstruck! Was soothing and sorrowful as gentle autumn rain! Blue is my favorite color now

Matthew Flowers

Since Iztac was named Cizin the fear of the Gods I wonder what the FE was named; Hunger of the Gods? Did FE even pass the Xibalba Trials?

Publius Decius Mus

Not necessarily. E. g. Diana was the goddess of childbirth, despite being virgin herself. Or at least at some point she became equated with Artemis, who was a virgin. Ceres, who also had fertility as one of her attributes was celebrated by people tying torches to foxes' tail. The one who inspired infamous orgies was actually Bacchus instead - admittedly he did have fertility as part of his divine portfolio as well.

Colin Love

Halfway through but I can’t help wonder if it’s a journey that should be completed. Though just like Xelba the costs of not going through with the journey may lead to a cost too painful to bear. Yet the power which is taken is reflected back, should Itzac take power that he finds as bad or worse than the nightlords. That has been foreshadowed properly.

Mikael Markus

Wow, what a great chapter!

Yuval Roth

Kind of wonder what a god of fertility will act like, would he liked, turn everything around him into an orgy?

Yuval Roth

The first emperor called him the tyrant sun, so I think vengeance or justice would be merged with his nature as a ruler.,

George R

Also this isn’t related but I wanted to ask what totems would Iztac’s wives have if they were sorcerer like him and Nentel? It’s fine if it’s a spoiler but I’ve been super curious

George R

Perfect dynamic for a god of the nature or storms

Yuval Roth

That I think another reason why the true gods feel so much greater, the nightlords feel insecure when they strike at Itzac, the Jaguar woman seemed weak when she needed to punish Itzac for arguing his case, like he said, true gods do not need to put on a show.

Void Herald

Well, as Iztac pointed out, while Tlaloc may have elected otherwise he did give him a fair hearing; though he lacks in self-control and moderation, he understands the value of fairness and rewarding loyalty, something which the Nightlords actively see as a weakness. They try to mimic the gods without understanding what makes them great in the first place ;)

Void Herald

Thanks! I admit I kinda wrote him like someone without moderation. He's either the best friend to hang out with or the worst enemy to have, with nothing in between ;)

Yuval Roth

Really loved Tlaloc's personality, similarly to the god of death, he felt bigger than life, he felt terrifying and awe inspiring, you really sold the image of him being a true god, the nightlords, ni matter how powerful compare to Itzac, could never match the weight Tlaloc had, they felt like pathetic monsters compared to him.

Dylan Alexander

Could be both. He may have multiple aspects, a merciful one and a vengeful one.

Publius Decius Mus

Probably the decision will be between god of justice vs god of vengeance. Good end is justice, bad end is vengeance.

George R

Loved this chapter really loved the characterization of Tlaloc. Amazing work

Dylan Alexander

And that’s why some gods are limited to their portfolios, so they’re not all powerful.

Dylan Alexander

That’s the excuse Iztac had used. As he is their fathers ‘vessel’, some of his abilities, like his burning blood are from him.

Dylan Alexander

So interested to see what divine portfolio Iztac will have if he succeeds in his quest!

Void Herald

There's also the fact that Necahual's witch powers are linked/proportional to Iztac's, so the stronger he becomes, so does she ;)

Publius Decius Mus

Given Iztac's propensity for sex magic, and the fact that he sired like five children in two months, I'll call it now: he will be the god of fertility 🤪

Yuval Roth

She would probably realize he does something in his sleep, keep in mind she knew him for a while, and two months ago he wasn't a sorcerlord demon, he had no reason to suffer her abuse if he had his current power.

Nicholas

Yikes, I can't even begin to imagine Necahual's confusion after Iztac wakes up. Not only did his Owl totem receive a name, but his heart fire swelled enormously. Being directly tied to him on a spiritual level, she will undoubtedly feel the change more than anyone else. Almost as if she woke up with a different person altogether.

CentaureHeart

Awesome, thanks!!

Moonkiller24

Daaaaaaamn. Gg protag! I wonder how many will notice the change. Been waiting SO LONG for dis moment

Yuval Roth

That was great, curious if the nightlords will notice that one and see it as their father fighting back.

Good chapter, the high highs and low lows kind of remind me of Shadow the Hedgehog. His character development whether he walked the path of hero, dark hero, anti hero, or villain reflects Iztac path. I am all of me, a song that embodies a lesson so trivial and ubiquitous that it is always forgotten.

Void Herald

I like the Dresden Files but it had little to no impact on Blood & Fur; in this case, it's more of an extension of the magic system where belief influences the divine; the gods are their portfolios and it influences their personality ;)

Void Herald

Glad to read this ;)

GloryHound

It felt very Dresden-y with the talk of mantles. Did it influence your writing here? The Dresden files?

Josiah Henderson

I love this story :)
