I've joined your 6 yr old. After the tragedy of 11/5, I needed some TV prozac & started watching The Great British Bake Off. No more MSNBC in the evenings or even Netflix unless it's kid-friendly. I hate reality TV & made it to 58 w/o watching any of it. But TGBB is delightful because the contestants all support each other, Pru & Paul are great, and I'd like to marry Noel if we both weren't already committed. Anyway, it's a sugary, creamy balm for my battered & depressed soul. I'm 90% vegan & haven't tried anything from the show, but you've inspired me! (I save the 10% for baked goods & still consume some dairy products.) I'll try these with peach or apricot instead of guava & hope for the best! I love your fiction--it's fun seeing this other side of you. And yes, things suck right now on such a colossal level, I can't even keep up. But maybe we can find some community on Bluesky & Patreon, and microdose hope, as my heroine Allison Gill (MSW Media; The Daily Beans. News, with Swearing) keeps extolling. That and cats.

Damn, all my muffin tins are in storage... We really need to find a bigger apartment, I can't stand being apart from all my cookware!

I haven't watched any of the new, post BBC Great British Bake Off, ie after the end of the era which inspired this operatic duet by Bounder & Cad: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_hpncr5YKw I watched some of the early-ish seasons when they were on my local PBS station. I have a particular fondness for Series 6 from 2015. This was the year when I finally got on Twitter, and the British people in my feed were all talking about it, so even though I didn't actually see it until five years later, I knew which contestant everyone wanted to win (Nadiya), which contestant everyone wanted to marry (Tamal), and which contestant would be my all-time favourite forever (Ian). I now follow Ian on Instagram. He's a professional photographer who takes pictures of (and once baked a birthday cake for) the Dalai Lama, and is now raising a litter of puppies.

To be fair, France names some of the things they make after other countries, like crème anglaise, sauce hollandaise, and even mayonnaise.
