A correction *I think* Ted was saying HE got the flu after having to be the rock for his dad and family. After being the rock for the family and putting himself last, the second he could take a breath it all caught up to him and got sick. So he was trying to relate and empathize with Skylar with how she was still feeling like Shit after getting good news about Walt.

Also Walt is feeling inferior at the party. He’s overcompensating for being an absent father. We’ve seen a couple times Hank step in while Walt has been busy with all his bullshit and now all that resentment and self deprecation and pitty is getting at him.
