The Linux Experiment
Yeah, I don't know why, but it seems there's an issue with this laptop, Steam, and external monitors. I don't think it's a coincidence that things ran well with the laptop only, but failed on 2 different distros, with 2 different UIs, when plugged in to an external monitor. I know for a fact that it ran well with the TV when using Windows, back in the day, so there's something not quite right here!
I actually set up a notebook for playing once. I used Big Picture mode and it worked flawlessly. Only problem was even back then I was stuck on hardware 7 to 10 years in use so not many games would run. Edit: I don't know what graphics it used though.

Yeah, it's pretty cold (arond 16 degrees most of the time), but it's wide, it's nice, and it's super close (like 20 minutes drive)! That's why I picked Brest, the beaches there are very rarely crowded, and while you don't get the most sun, when you do, it's truly magical!
At least you have a literal ocean nearby you can visit during these high temperatures. The closest beach on the sea I have is 3-4h away and as an alternative there are crowded lakes -.- A 6h workday sounds so awesome. So much free time for other fulfilling things ❤️
