Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing well, because it's time to vote on the next topics I'll cover on the channel!
Of course, we'll have the usual Linux News videos, one per week, so 5 in total in December.
I'll also review the FydeTab, a tablet running FydeOS, which, as I understand it, is an open source version of ChromeOS, with a lof more advantages than ChromeOS Flex that I reviewed a few days ago.
There will also be a review of the KDE Slimbook 15, and potentially a look at all System76 Keyboard variants, if they can get them shipped to me in time, with a look at 3 of the 4 switches type they offer.
I'll also dedicate a video to talking about KDE, and specifically how to ensure that all the power it has can actually be discovered, and used by users: instead of intimidating them, trying to onboard them.
I'll also make a video about how to set up a NAS for beginners, and why it's an interesting thing to have at home.
And now, you'll get to vote on what you'd like to see! Out of these 5 topics, I'll pick the 2 most voted:
- Linux Desktop pain points: I still encounter a few things that don't feel polished enough, or are just too difficult or annoying to do on any Linux desktop, simple operations that other operating systems do better, like handling PDFs, or syncing stuff across devices...
- Alternatives to OneNote: this is an app that is really hard to replace, especially with open source applications, so I'll see if I can find a few nice competitors that would do the trick
- Why Linux and FOSS is the best choice for a small business: a look at how, by starting your business using Linux and FOSS, you can save time, money, and effort for later, and remove future barriers to migrate
- 2022 was an incredible year for Linux and open source: a sort of retrospective, looking at what happened, if my previous previsions were right, and what we could expect next
- AppImages focus: an often neglected packaging format, AppImages still have some nice advantages, so I'll take a look at how usable they are, how you integrate them on your system, and their limitations compared to other formats

About "Why Linux and FOSS is the best choice for a small business" : if you're planning to add a little taste of ethics, maybe it would be interesting to cover the "Public money, public code" topic ( publiccode.eu ) ? Not talking about public institutions (as you did in the past), but more about subsidised PME [fr] and associative ecosystem :-)
Regarding the "how to set up a NAS" - I have just setup my first NAS last week, used rpi 4 and openmediavault. It was fairly easy apart from having issue with smb sharing - I spent hours on it and at last I figured out that while the share folder had correct privileges, the mounted drive forlder in /srv did not (missing rights for group). If it was not for this, I'd say OMV is ready for less technical users...
