It seems like we always have to wait for monopolies to self-destruct when they adapt poorly to changing market conditions or cut costs too aggressively. See Intel and Boeing. There haven't been many cases of a knight in shining armor, like Mozilla, saving us, that I can remember.

I only know OVH from a joke a friend told me, that they "fully migrated to the cloud". One or two of their datacenter near Strasbourg burned down. But I get your point :D

Mozilla has always been poor at both planning and communication. It makes things 100x worse when you try to take a company that has championed privacy and the buy an ad company with little to no explanation as to the why, until after the outcry. Don't get me wrong, there would always be an outcry of that, but when you just slap your user base upside the head without much reasoning, it makes it that much more difficult.

I quite agree, corporate mindset is nowadays overwhelmingly geared towards cutting expenses instead of building the right projects in which to invest.
