And the reason the Danes don't believe Uhtred about what happened to his family is bc by attacking his uncle he exposed himself as being alive and gave them (his uncle and Kjartan) the opportunity to put an alternate story that the danes were nore prone to believe since Uhtred was born a Christian so they were more likely to distrust him.
