Discords are great and I'm so excited you decided to create one! I'm on a few writing Discords and they can be such great spaces for writers to connect. Some threads suggestions that might be cool would be: writing resources, screaming into the void (aka plot struggles), writing sprints (the Sprinto bot is amazing!), writing accomplishments, events (for challenges, upcoming lives etc), writing review section (for those to post bits of their work). Non-writing specific threads (aside from your general chat, intro section, and rule section) could be: creative shares (a place to post about your art, crafting, building, etc), book recommendations, music recommendations, self care, good news thread, etc. Discord I know a lot about and am down to help and offer suggestions but admittedly I am awful with coming up with names!! Sorry I can't offer up a suggestion for a server name!

I love the idea of Discord! I have tons of experience admin-ing on gaming Discords, and depending on the size it's usually really nice to have some off-topic areas, too! An introduce yourself channel is really good for connecting with others. It might be fun to have a muses channel where people can post songs/videos/pictures/prompts to inspire others to write too. As far as names go... I'm bad at that part LOL but I love a lot of the suggestions I've seen here :)

I had a couple of thoughts. Would people be interested in a channel that allows people to post links to work they've self-published on amazon/wattpad/medium? To allow us to support the members of the community. And, would folks be interested in a channel for requests for CPs/Betas?

You could always call the whole discord Project Discord and then make the individual channels the other names you like

Totally into this idea can't wait to get to know my fellow Patrons and hopefully get more words down as for Names I second "The Cavanaughs" Because it sounds like a old black and white sitcom from the 60's and as it's not you're real name and it's not (To my knowledge) The name of anyone here. We can all be Cavanaugh's together in our love of our craft, chaos and your channel. I could be cousin Adam from Scotland. yay.

I always find names of discord servers should be fun but distinct of the person running it. So coffee, puppers, running, libraries.... I have no idea!!! Different chat groups for writing, research, reading and such will be great! Discord is how I made so many friends and talk to 24/7

“The Cavanaughts” (like astronauts) could be a fun name Also, other writing servers I’m in have monthly events to keep motivation outside of nano. That, and sprint related awards (highest number of sprints, highest wpm, etc)

Bethany Votaw made a great little author pals discord server if you're looking for a great example, it's open to anyone so you can jump on and check it out/join in the general fun! Discord is great, sprints channel would be good, maybe stuff like music, research, general chaos, and writer buddies stuff?

could have different channels for different genres, a channel for "off-topic", a channel with pinned resources that's locked, a channel devoted to discussing your latest videos, a channel devoted to "inspiration" (pictures or otherwise), a place for posting snippets/asking for critiques (will need to separate for PG stuff and otherwise), also in general the mods and you should consider how the Discord reflects the general culture of your channel (like if you want to keep the whole server family-friendly, certain topics like politics and things you don't discuss could be off-limits (don't have to be but they could), etc.)

I have 0 suggestions for names, just wanted to say this sounds like a great idea!

Can we call the Discord "Research" so that if I get distracted by it while writing I can feel good about it?
