From before I even sat in the AMC to view this stunning film, I knew it would be one of my top movies of the year. The good news is it's NOW STREAMING and we, of course, encourage you to watch it before listening to the episode. THAT BEING SAID, there's not a whole lot of unpredictable plot to even really be spoiled. So this is a pretty low stakes "listen at your own risk" situation.
This episode also includes personal reflections on ~asian americanness~ , me reading my favorite college course syllabus out loud, and *drumroll* Carter's experience at BEYONCE.

Just listened to this one after watching this movie today and you guys had such a good discussion about it! It was cathartic to listen to yall when I watched this with my mom who commented about how the Uber driver was probably getting annoyed during the characters final moments together while I was crying lol There were so many brilliantly framed shots and every moment, line, and expression was so purposeful We leave past versions of ourselves behind with every person that we leave behind
OMG WE DIDNT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE FAREWELL SCENE AHHHH when she cries in her husband's arms, I lost my mind. Because she said she used to be a crybaby but when she first left Korea she stopped crying altogether because no one was listening. she had no one to cry to. but NOW she has arthur. I thought it was such a succinct and stunning way to show the viewer that she really is safe and at home there with him.
establishing shot where ppl are comfortable being judgemental haters 🤌 cheers to being petty our reaction to her husband the whole movie = perpetual eye roll This movie felt like a personal attack because we have so many long distance friendships all over the planet and some of them are childhood crushes that will never happen. We're just left on social media and videocalling being in a hopeless state of limerance. It was nice to watch the reality of actually visiting someone you had a online relationship from a different country for so long come into fruition. Then seeing the reality of it being awkward and not matching up to either of their fantasies. Loved the ending scene when they say farewell-watched it multiple times! Body language was SPEAKING. Everything that was unspoken/unsaid in the silence could be read SO clearly
