Chris K

Has anyone had any contact with KT? DMs? Anything?

Bill F Protagoras

If only he had the potential of a blank...

Bill F Protagoras

I hope you are well too, KT, and thriving... ¡Felices Pascuas!

Chris K

How do you feel now, over a month later??

Jim

Well, I hope KT is OK, but I am about done waiting. No updates, no messages explaining what's going on ...

Bill F Protagoras

Just a moment ago I was mentally rebuking myself, or the tedious vicissitudes of life, when I recalled another one of the constant refrains that insidiously informed the childhood of me and my little brother. 'There's no rest for the wicked'... It would be of little consequence except I'm pretty sure I haven't had occasion to use its profound irony in reference to 'Devil in the Waters'. I hope it's not too late! Or even worse... peremptory!

Kat

I hope KT is okay. It’s been a month since she updated DITW. Up here in Canada, some people decided that November 22 was Black Friday. Others have been calling all of November “Black Friday week.” Kind of defeats the purpose, if you ask me. Canadians don’t really get it, per usual. I’m still glad to be living up here (no offense US friends!). November 2024 has already been quite the doozy. :)

JL23

Hope all is well everyone. I used this joke last month, so let me double down and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, or if you don’t live in the US, a happy Thursday. With Black Friday thereafter (a tradition we seemed to have passed to the rest of the world) it’s officially holiday season too. So as we put up our trees (or anything else used to celebrate the season), hopefully we get a present containing some new chapters when KT is ready to share.

Bill F Protagoras

Kafka fans?

Bill F Protagoras

The colour feels like it is being bleached out of the world like a bad trip on PCP... Thank the fickle stars for the mettle irony which underpins existence with... a mourning detective plying her thankless trade in the Remarkables, and a reluctant mean waiter playing second fiddle in the confused interior of Chinatown. The sting of synchronicity on Bloomsday! And fucking Christmas relentlessly coming... "If it wasn't for bad luck..."

Bill F Protagoras

CSH, I have been waiting for you to make a revisit to this corner of the multiverse, because I owe you an apology... You, it turns out, were right and I, as I am err to be, was wrong... Hope you are thriving... Felices Fiestas!

HTO

Arthur blank trump

Bill F Protagoras

The other day, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there.

Bill F Protagoras

Harvest festival... how ironic!

Bill F Protagoras

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and 'I am a foolish fond old man.' Wot the Hell! Wot the Hell! Toujours Gai! Quality not quantity is foremost in life... though a tad of quantity comes in handy, in the right circumstances. A lot less Trump wouldn't be a bad thing either. Choking on banality is tantamount to evil!

Jim

I am very tempted to unsubscribe. Nothing worth reading for weeks now. I love the DITW series and would love it to continue, but otherwise it's repeating stuff some of us have already seen. Please answer honestly KT is it worth hanging on? What can we look forward to in the weeks to come? Sorry if this upsets some of you. we are (I hope ) all fans and supporters, but I would also think that it's not unreasonable to expect a little more for our monthly subs.

Chris K

Don't care so much about the output. A "hi, I'm still here" goes a long way in appreciation.

RCH

Not sure how long you have been a follower? Stuff happens in peoples lives that are beyond their control. KT will have slow periods I believe this is not KT's main job so I'm very willing to give her some slack. I've been following KT for years and she has her ups and downs as far as output for time to time. (note this is a new account as Patreon canceled my old account for suspicious activity never got an answer why!)

Chris K

Anybody else feel like KT has lost the will to keep writing? The releases are almost non existent at this point. The other two stories stopped cold, and I pretty much forget chapter to chapter what goes on in DITW, due to the length between. Hope all is well of course, but throwing out a few sentences to let us know what is going on isn't a big ask.

Bill F Protagoras

Kimmy makes it quite clear in her exculpatory soliloquy it wasn't the devil that made her do it... it was Josh... all appearances to the contrary... he was the tempter and she merely the tempting low hanging fruit... Not Eve, but carnal knowledge itself with a touch of the cerebral to drive Josh mad.

Kat

I must be smart, because I know what a cobbler is. And, no, it’s not made of apples. Haha

Bill F Protagoras

Whilst naive Kimmy and others see an illusory 'man' rising out of Josh's experience and self absorbed Kimmy Chang's 'encouragement and condescension'... Josh, in his underprivileged gut, feels the ambiguous presence of a dark chimera stirring in his womb... A chimera he seals within... Could be due to something more than a mere penchant for concealment... Certainly could be pernicious indigestibility... When is Hyun gonna be obliged to offer her squint at the truth of the slick siren success show?

Bill F Protagoras

The smarts you already have, Kat, or you couldn't be learning from what you read... as you clearly and cheerfully are! I'm just a cobbler...

Chris K

If anyone under the age of 30 is reading this, they probably have no idea what your talking about....

Kat

You say it far better than I could, Bill. I’m getting smarter, though, reading KT!

RCH

When this ride started I never imagined we'd be here! I can see our couple settling in to child rearing Colleen becoming their main focus. Perhaps adding a few more children to the brood in the coming years. Life is good! Zoom forward DITW part II: Jedediah has just left for university (Jed is Kimmy and Josh's youngest). It's time for KT to release the beast again. Kimmy is still hot in her 40's...

L_S87

I'm not sure I'm that far onto the Kimmy deserves this train... But... I do what Josh to do *something* unexpected. Whether it's what I said in my post or taking a belt to her like she did to Amy, I want Kimmy to *feel* it, not just get her easy enjoyment she's worked *so* hard for... at Josh's expense.

Bill F Protagoras

Error..."He put his hand between them, angled his point to hr slit and slid himself inside..." "He put his hand between them, angled his point to 'her' slit and slid himself inside..."

Bill F Protagoras

Hear, hear! Kat! At heart Milton 'was' of the devil's party... A fully de-fledged party to the rebellion against the cavalier adherence to the divine right of kings! Off with their heads! Truly enlightened despots!

L_S87

LOL! Only you would use that term after this chapter while discussing the inner workings of a manual transmission! You're great, KT! So.. the answer is no. Sort of. The flywheel will be steel, which connects the crankshaft output from the engine, but the other side of that will be the clutch disc (or discs, depending on make/model) made out of some sort of composite material. The pressure plate goes behind the disc and pushes it into the flywheel to create friction for movement. When you push the clutch pedal in, you're reducing the spring tension the pressure plate applies to the clutch, allowing it to slip. But you only want that slip to occur with activation. You put grease on the clutch discs, they won't lock up on the flywheel, they'll just continuously slip as if you had the clutch pedal pushed in, so no energy transfer to the drive shaft to get you moving. Now, I say sort of, because some clutch discs can be metallic , but they're still generally a composite material designed to be grippy and be a wearable surface. While that's generally how it works for most manual vehicles, or what a person thinks of when you say "clutch" (pedal), motorcycles also have a clutch, and those generally are a wet clutch. While some are dry (Ducati is known for this on some of their bikes) most typically share the same case space as the gearbox and engine, so they all are bathed in the same oil. (This creates it's own challenges and is why you never use car oil in a motorcycle) The clutch pack in a bike typically resembles an automatic transmission more than a manual one, even if you do manually activate it. All that blah blah blah is a long way of saying, that even in a wet clutch application, or an auto with clutches and wave plates, you would never use grease. It's not the right consistency. You want to create a controlled amount of friction, not remove it via grease. So... Like I said. I'm being anal. Sorry!

Bill F Protagoras

"For man will hearken to his wife, and to her hearken not But in his heart will wish to do what she has said." The perfect fit! And perhaps a rare insight into blind John's personal beliefs... a welcome distraction from dutifully justifying the ways of god to man... or a more abstrusely divine form of intervention... and hopefully repaying a heartfelt debt of gratitude and love!

Bill F Protagoras

Good one!

KT Morrison

yes!

KT Morrison

So you're saying it's raw-dog metal on metal!?

Kat

Kimmy is Satan (the Devil in the waters), and Satan always gets what it wants. Throughout this story, a constant has been Kimmy fulfilling her lusts and getting what she wants, no matter the risk. And when she doesn’t get her way, eventually she finds a way to make it work for her. She wanted to be rich, have a big, expensive house, have a baby, Devlin’s job, and be with Josh at the end of it all. She’s gotten everything she wanted. I believe she loves Josh desperately, but it has to be her way. She loves him, too, because she can control him. She could never control Devlin, until she found a way to betray him. In a romantic relationship with Devlin, Kimmy would have been the loser. Josh and Kimmy’s relationship is not one of equals. I’m not saying it’s bad. It works for them. Josh wants all of this. It’s taken me a while to realize it. Josh wants what Kimmy’s giving him. He also serves Kimmy’s need to dominate and be in control. Even when she needs someone else (Devlin), it means nothing for her if she also doesn’t have Josh. As for Hyun, I hope we find out something about their relationship. I’m convinced that when Kimmy said “real sex” she meant M/F sex. She also said that “toys” weren’t even close to being equal. I took that as sex with Hyun and their strap-ons, and the Devlin replica. I would imagine that if Hyun heard this she’d be very upset. Hyun said she was expecting Kimmy and Josh’s reunion, but she was pretty upset. Why would she be so upset if she wasn’t being Kimmy’s girlfriend all year? I need to know, or as you said, what was the point of Hyun in this story? Why would we feel anything for her, unless there was more to their relationship?

Kat

Kimmy is Satan, and I’m not saying that in an accusing way. KT, I’m always learning something from your writing. :)

KT Morrison

Hearken to his wife here isn't from the bible. It's from Satan in Paradise Lost, saying, For man will hearken to his wife, and to her hearken not But in his heart will wish to do what she has said.

Chris K

He'll probably just use his finger gun 👉👌

L_S87

Maybe you guys are right. It's obvious Kimmy loves him, broken and awful as that love may be at times. She's just so damn manipulative and cunning that I struggle to see this as anything but premeditated. Certainly she couldn't control all of it, and she was afraid of Josh rejecting her, but I feel like everything she's done in this final book has lead to this event. Something she orchestrated because she wanted it that badly. As to Hyun, I'm with you guys on hoping there's more there. Whether it's Josh finding out, or at least us knowing through Kimmy what went on, it feels off that it would end between them on that conversation. Mostly because if that's truly it, then what's the point? You could literally dump her out of the series, add in a hired nanny, and it wouldn't substantively change the series from a Kimmy and Josh perspective. Hopefully we get a peak at what's going on there. It still feels odd that Josh so clearly felt something was going on there and yet dropped it like a hot rock, for apparently no reason. Makes me think *something* will happen with that.

JL23

You could be right Kat. Her interaction with Hyun a few chapters ago certainly inferred there was more. I think we as a reader do need an answer on that question, even if Josh never gets it. I hate to use that word "need" since we're not the writer and aren't necessarily entitled to answers on everything. If KT wants to leave that answer ambiguous to everyone, that's a writer's prerogative. It would just feel a bit odd to tease it a bunch and then not at least give the reader a definitive answer. At least for me.

Kat

Really good thoughts, JL. There’s not much I can add. You’ve said a lot of what I thought, as well. this chapter is like the mirror image of the chapters in Book 13, right after Josh watched Kimmy and Devlin together. She’s working him the same way, dredging up his anger, which causes him to act in a more forceful way which she enjoys. She learned from her mistakes and softened her approach, too. There’s sort of an absolution with this Josh. She did wrong, but if Josh hate fucks her, it’s not totally bad. She gets what she wants and so does Josh, but at what cost? I also think there’s an opening for her to show him the videos of Devlin. Prove to him that she’d do anything to avenge him. Kimmy doesn’t consider what she’s done with Hyun to be “real sex,” therefore she doesn’t have to tell Josh. To her, it’s not a real affair because Hyun is a woman, and she trusts Hyun not to betray her secrets. Hyun would be terribly hurt to know this, and that it’s this easy for Kimmy to walk away from what they shared. I was also wondering if Hyun could hear them upstairs when she was downstairs “babysitting” for them?

JL23

Maybe I give her too much credit, but I don't necessarily think she's been planning this particular outcome for a year, or that she deliberately let Josh suffer for a year so that he'd be broken enough to accept this lifestyle. There may be some of that in it, I do think she needed Josh to come to her, but I do believe part of it was she was genuinely afraid of initiating a reconciliation herself and having Josh reject it. And I think on a certain level, she takes cues on where to push things from Josh's actions. She recognizes Josh looked for the panties, she sees Josh pushing in certain ways, and how he's responding to her answers. It's a two way street, I guess is what I'm saying. Is Kimmy manipulating? Yes, but Josh in many ways is asking for her to do that too. More and more, I wonder if the moral of the story is these are two people who are both probably bad for each other, but they're also perfect for each other. Maybe they'd be better off apart in the long run, but neither can really survive without the other long enough to truly find that out.

Tracey52

I hope he suffocates her.

L_S87

Completely agree with this. I may not *like* it, but this was very well done.

L_S87

KT, I know I'm being anal with this, so please forgive me, but the line "Josh’s motor ran at speed and the greased clutch fit right into place." makes no sense. A greased clutch is worthless. It would just continuously slip and you'd go nowhere. Okay, I'll now turn off my mechanical grumblings and we'll get back to your regularly scheduled grudge fuck.

L_S87

I was going to post my thoughts, but I don't really need to after reading this, because we're basically in the same place, JL. I wanted Kimmy to do right by Josh, to earn his trust, his love. Get them back by giving Josh the love, caring and tenderness he needed to be made whole. And she could have done it. But she didn't. Instead she played house with Hyun for months while she watched Josh from afar. Let him stew and marinate in his darkness and despair. I don't fault her for initially leaving. Things were a mess. She was a mess. But she could have ended Josh's suffering 6+ months ago. She didn't because she chose not to. Not because it wasn't right or the timing wasn't perfect for Josh, but because it wasn't perfect for her. You see how she's getting off on Josh hate fucking her, and she's loving it just as much, if not more, than anything Devlin ever did. And she wouldn't have gotten this, any of it, if she'd done the right thing and spent months loving Josh and earning him back slowly. Earning his trust back. No, she wanted what's happening right now because this is *her* itch, her need that she wants satisfied. And it only happens if she lets Josh suffer for over a year. Clearly a calculated risk that she almost lost multiple times, and I do think she loves him and would be awful for him and that she truly believes everything she's saying. But none of that changes that this night is still more for her than for Josh, or that she didn't leave him to rot and writhe in mental anguish simply so she could have this outcome. Because she doesn't get this nasty, depraved sex from Josh if she goes slow and gains his trust by making him whole. No, she needs him somewhat broken and full of hate for it to work. Would serve her right if Josh pulled her hair back while he was fucking her from behind and whispered in her ear "I lied too, I fucked Karina just like this while we were apart and I enjoyed her big tits and ass that's so much better than yours." That wouldn't ever happen, but it would be awesome to experience.

Donkatsu

Should we read anything into the line from Genesis, "Hearken to your wife" just as Jews are rewinding the Torah scrolls and moving through that part of Genesis over the next few weeks. Josh already had his time of wandering in the desert on the last run through.

Bill F Protagoras

PPS I presumed "Josh grimaced, nowhere near as turned on by the idea than she was." Was what you wanted to say... rather than the more uncomplicated... "Josh grimaced, nowhere near as turned on by the idea 'as' she was."

Bill F Protagoras

Though Othello deliberately in his maddened state misconstrues his wife as from the devil, her name from the Greek means unfortunate or ill-fated...

Bill F Protagoras

PS KT you never cease to amaze...

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh palmed the back of her head and pushed her face into the pillow." OTHELLO "It is the cause, it is the cause, my soul. Let me not name it to you, you chaste stars, It is the cause. Yet I’ll not shed her blood, Nor scar that whiter skin of hers than snow And smooth as monumental alabaster. Yet she must die, else she’ll betray more men. Put out the light, and then put out the light. If I quench thee, thou flaming minister, I can again thy former light restore Should I repent me. But once put out thy light, Thou cunning’st pattern of excelling nature, I know not where is that Promethean heat That can thy light relume. When I have plucked thy rose I cannot give it vital growth again, It must needs wither. I’ll smell thee on the tree. Oh, balmy breath, that dost almost persuade Justice to break her sword! One more, one more. Be thus when thou art dead and I will kill thee And love thee after. (kissing her) One more, and that’s the last. So sweet was ne'er so fatal. I must weep, But they are cruel tears. This sorrow’s heavenly, It strikes where it doth love." But Kimmy's no Desdemona... though demonic... and Josh's anger's probably untainted by regret... and he shares an incriminating scrap of tainted cloth with the Moor of Venice...

Bill F Protagoras

I still hope for the shoe dangling from Kimmy's foot to succumb to gravity...

Bill F Protagoras

"Hearken to his wife." That's some injunction... "And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; "

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh roared and withdrew his cock from her hot scabbard, hoisting her to one side, scrambling to get her on her hands and knees. He’d let go of her hair, and she complied. Josh palmed the back of her head and pushed her face into the pillow." Bitch... The unspoken epithet of the goddess Hekate, only begotten child!... A silent burning reproach...

Bill F Protagoras

“You’re worse than Devlin ever was,” he said, jaw clamped." Josh said curtly and cruelly consigning Kimmy to deeper damnation than his lifelong nemesis... (see my retraction of putting Kimmy on a par with Devlin in a later addendum*),

Bill F Protagoras

"His hand closed on her collar, then stroked her throat, his thumb caressing her tendon. There was anger in his eyes. Anger and disgust; but Josh sweetened that emotion with lust’s coarse sugar." “You have to be kidding me,” he said, voice low and disbelieving." "No plan survives first contact with the enemy..." Some clever cunt!

Bill F Protagoras

"Her eyes opened again, her features relaxing to an inscrutable mask, assessing Josh’s judgment before she spoke." Wearing her realistic persona at last... catching him catching her breath...

Bill F Protagoras

"Josh studied her, his soft eyes roaming her naked body, wondering if she told him the truth. And what would he think of her if he deemed her truthful? That she was good? That she was noble? Maybe he would hear this confession as sin. As a promise of her powerful malice. It could frighten him." "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt.” Neither Lincoln, nor Twain... Much, much older than either...

Bill F Protagoras

"She said, “I would have got Devlin on his knees and made him suck your cock.” Josh grimaced, nowhere near as turned on by the idea than she was."

Bill F Protagoras

"She had strayed too far from fantasy and dosed him with emotional concepts that he would argue against. But she couldn’t stop talking." Presenting her argument... courting a man she hopes will become her client... innocence impossible... scrabbling on shale hoping to make a stand on a 'not guilty' verdict... each flailing in the residual darkness... They have both always secretly prided themselves on hiding things each from the other... "For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." Corinthians, " Do unto others..." Is it the Golden Rule? Or the Golden Mean? "Someone must have been telling lies about Joseph K., for without having done anything wrong he was arrested one fine morning." The Trial.

Bill F Protagoras

“I hurt you, Josh. But what I wanted most was your transcendence. I wanted you to shrug off Devlin’s juvenile mantle. You’re so much more than he is." ”A chump. A cuck. A man whose wife ran games around his impotent ass." "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to talk and remove all doubt.” *Although, when Josh excoriates Kimmy with the accusation that she is worse than Devlin she implies, in her rebuttal, that unlike Josh's compulsive bully, the degree of hurt she inflicted was unintentional. She did what she did out of love which is a line away from hate... thin though that line may be! Perhaps, the Lord permitting, she should not be misunderstood, and her intentions should not be fit solely for the purpose of paving hell bound thorough fares! Or... O Lord, please don't let her be misunderstood!

JL23

“Listen to Your Wife.” I see this chapter as almost a mirror version of what Kimmy attempted that night in their apartment after the fateful threesome at the Royal York. She’s using a lot of the same explanations to turn Josh’s engine up and get him to submit, to her and to his desires. But now she has a Josh who’s been adrift at sea for a year, and experienced loss, of his wife and 6 months with his baby. So she has a Josh who is more amenable to heed the beacon of light from the shore. Also, whereas in the apartment she was confrontational in a condescending way, she seems to be striking a better tone here, one more likely to result in her desired outcome. And in many ways, she’s spinning the fact that a part of Josh will always hate her and what she did, into something both of them can hang onto. Hate is a powerful emotion, and in many ways it feels like Kimmy has been able to spin that hate into a positive in her own head, as much as Josh. She’s turned on by the hate as much as he is, she’s deriving pleasure from the idea that Josh will “punish” her. In a lot of ways, she’s taking pleasure from the idea that she’s provided Josh his “man” card in a way, and now he’s showing her how he’ll use it. Really interesting and complex chapter, I think I agree with L_S87 that I need more time to let it marinate. I’m not sure I love it either, or that’s it’s a truly healthy relationship, but I can see how it would work for these particular people. Again, I really don’t know with the Hyun stuff. This is all in Kimmy’s POV, and telling Josh something about Hyun seems the furthest thing from her mind. She mentions not having “real sex” in a year, which could again just mean sex with a man, or it could mean she hasn’t had sex with Hyun either. I just don’t know anymore. I kind of wonder if she’s going to show him those videos though, it felt like a lot of her “confessions” could be leading to that revelation. You want to see how ridiculous I made Devlin look, what a chump I turned him into…let me show you,

Bill F Protagoras

"But Josh saw her in that moment in a way she hid."

Andrew Mellein

I love it.

L_S87

Okay, I think I get it now. Too much of a dissertation of thoughts to unload tonight, but really well done, KT. I don't love it, in fact I think I might hate it, *but*, just like Kimmy is absorbing Josh's hate and reveling in it, I have to admire how amazing this was that you thought this out to this conclusion.
