But do they also unlock new skills like how he got the unstable anatomy with demonic covenant + hellfire ritual?

Reg Rome

I don't think I've mentioned this yet in-story, but yes, Universal Skills can contribute to Exclusive Skill Evolution unlocks. It's much rarer, though, so it doesn't happen as often.

Ihsan Gunay

Can universal skills be used for class exclusive skill unlocks? Hellfire ritual + heat resistance and self-destruction + unstable anatomy should be interesting combos for new skills. Also, Hell portal and Forbidden knowledge will probably unlock new skills with every skill. Demonic Covenant should get particularly good skill options.

Ihsan Gunay

Another thing to note is that he needs to unlock an otherworldly excellence evolution by level 16 to maximize his gains. He should focus on getting and maxing out all the skills he wants before then. Right now he can easily afford all of the skills he wants if he prioritizes ranking them up before leveling. Getting the forbidden knowledge is probably also a good idea. Hopefully he’ll get a good mental protection skill by level 15 to use it safely. Maybe rank 10 vile focus and friend of the unhollowed will unlock something like that.

Binge eating costs a lot but it’s a good combo with sleep deprivation. He will probably complete the trifecta by getting a 💩 holding skill with his ritual marathons. 🤣🤣🤣

It would be really funny if Zeth picked inquisitor as his second class to fuel his quest for vengeance. ☠️

I think that makes a lot more sense! Sorry if I came off as overly critical of the original way you had the skill but with how strong it was I was really confused as to why Zeth wouldn't have taken it earlier, so explaining how strong it could've been in conjunction with other skills made it easier to get the point across.

Reg Rome

Alright, after sleeping on it I ended up deciding to tweak the Skill by increasing its Strength gain and decreasing its Dexterity/Endurance gain. The total number of Stats it gives is lower, so its a bit of a nerf, but I also felt like a Skill with the word "Strength" in the name should probably focus more on the Strength Stat than the others, so I felt like the change was appropriate regardless. Ultimately, I feel that what Zeth said at the beginning when he unlocked the Skill, that it was a powerful Skill but out of his budget, pretty much applies throughout the story and so he wouldn't necessarily need to constantly be returning to it and thinking it over again. Now that he no longer has a single Skill he's primarily working toward, he's gonna be going back and picking up older Skills he unlocked in the past and has been meaning to get to, so there'll be a moment where he checks out Unholy Strength again and reevaluates its power.

The method to get a Class has been mentioned here and there, but effectively each Class has a set of Skills associated with it. In order to get the Class, you have to purchase and fully Rank up a certain number of those associated Skills, with the number you need to purchase going up as its rarity goes up. Having a Class itself isn't seen as insanely rare or anything, but many people forego taking one because getting a Class makes you worth more progress toward the next Level for people with combat Classes, meaning you'd be turning yourself into a target. So it's a bit of a risk, especially if you're not taking a combat-focused Class that can effectively protect you. However, plenty of people still do take Classes despite that danger---it was mentioned at the beginning of the novel, but the mining guild actually requests that all of its members take the Miner Class themselves, since it isn't that difficult to get a lower-Rarity Class. It's getting a higher Rarity one and Leveling it up to get more significant power that's difficult.

Reg Rome

Ah, you're right, my notes were messed up. Thanks for pointing that out, it's been fixed!

I explained more in the discord but I don't think the size would be an issue if he got compact rites as well. After everything it would be only 7 inches and that's assuming he gets nothing else decreasing the size and doesn't raise his awareness at all.

BrandyLeeT

How rare is having a class? Is it comon and his town just so repressed that they dont have that many classholders? Also how do you get a class the normal way? Do you need someone to teach you? Or do you just unlock and learn core skills and then get offered the option to take the class?

Ihsan Gunay

I believe butchering and steady hands should cost 27 skill points total according to earlier chapters.

BrokenBulb65

I believe the reason the ritual isn't used is its size; at a diameter of 2.33ft, it would be almost impossible to carry around comfortably and stealthily. Especially when you consider he is already struggling with just carrying hellfire rituals as it, which are only 4.66 inches; 6× smaller

Going off this I think it would be a good idea to change how Unholy Strength works. A skill as strong as this one really doesn't have a reason to not have been mentioned by Zeth sooner. Especially since he's had it since basically Day 1

Toast

I think we need a chapter coming up that gives Zeth a chance to sit down and look at his options. He's been going from one stressful situation to another with no rest so he's been getting skills as they fit the situation. But seeing the skills he still doesn't own I think we need a chance to see why he rationalizes skipping some of the skills he does. Especially with how important some of them seem. Unholy Strength for example could have changed nearly every fight he's been in so far. In chapter 56 when he got to 50 dexterity he thought to himself he felt like he could genuinely move 2-3x as fast. With Unholy Strength he could be carrying around multiple ritual circles to instantly become bare minimum 50 stronger in strength, endurance, and dexterity. If he carried multiple he could stack them similar to the Expedite skill in Minute Mage, and combined with his healing skills that are boosted off of endurance he would be basically unkillable for 10 minutes
