I seen they are re-releasing The Birds in select theaters in October for the 60th anniversary! It is a great movie, can’t wait until Jay & Amber decide to review it.

Loved watching this tonight! There is a bit of role reversal in this movie. Rocky is like Apollo in the first movie, not taking his challenger seriously. Clubber is training old-school like Rocky in the first film and, not surprisingly, knocks Rocky out early. Apollo’s respect for Rocky grew after the first and second fight between them. It was nice to see the respect turn into friendship. I was sad to see Mickey go, but love that Apollo trained Rocky. The one thing I didn’t understand is why Clubber Lang had so much hatred for Rocky or for people in general. He was just a villain, all evil, and I would have liked to have seen a bit more behind why he was so angry and for the character to be more than just a cookie-cutter bad guy. I think it’s possible that Sonny Liston was the model for Clubber Lang. Liston was a very tough boxer, really intimidating, and not the most likable person. Legend has it that Muhammad Ali was actually scared when he fought Liston, but acted like a crazy man in front of him to get inside Liston’s head. Ali was a master manipulator and IMHO the greatest fighter ever. He would go on to beat Liston.
