Elaborate

Hm, upgrading will probably backfire somehow. Normally, people just have 6 Skills when they take Beginner, so how it interacts with others isn't known. Worst-case, Research or Visualization takes the hit. Well, Edwin can always decline...

Elaborate

Look, in this world, a normal person gets to tier 4 before they die. If we assume 60 years average lifespan, that's twenty years per tier. Edwin, it's been like a month. Srsly? What's going to be easier, get two Skills up to 60, or one skill up to 30 and one to 90? Because your average Path cost is around 60, you know... :/

Daedalus

Some of those are intentional (this is recording Edwin’s thoughts in a more direct manner), though yeah, it does need another pass.

Elaborate

Lots of third-person/first-person mixups in the Path notes.

Elaborate

Noooooo! Edwin, you idiot! [Identify] is one of your core Skills! It synergizes with Outsider's Almanac! You need the increased range, so you can do things like tracking a person in a crowd with it, or detect every instance of Gold within a hundred meters! AND, it's ideal for tracking skill level vs range!

Daedalus

Oops. Guess who meant to look up those details in my notes and then forgot/missed it in my edit pass?

Nathan Fish

"a small shrine with a statue depicting" just stops?

Daedalus

Enchanted items (specifically those imbued with magic) tend to scale off the level their creator was when they made it, and usually have magical effects not commonly seen on a Trophy. It might be easier to think about Trophies and enchanted items as two different kinds of magical items, each with their own benefits and drawbacks.

Obran

Is there any advantage in Enchanting if people get freebee magic items from paths? I mean sure, it is cheaper in terms of using skill points. But are they similar in terms of strengths and weaknesses?

Daedalus

Trophy Paths function the same as any other Path. You complete them, they choose a skill and evolve it. However, the evolution of the Skill almost always results in some sort of physical manifestation, which improves as it goes forward. Take Tara's armor, for example. It was likely a Trophy evolution of an armor proficiency Skill, and now lets her summon Skill-Armor directly onto her body. The armor itself provides additional protection as the level increases, and it may even incorporate future Trophies going forward (like maybe it would pick up a dragonscale texture and some elemental resistances if it were evolved with the Dragonslayer path). So yes, Excalibur could be a Trophy skill (though there are other ways it might work as well).

Osiris

I thought Trophy Paths gave you an item, but the item itself is a skill? So you could potentially level your original magic sword skill into an “Excalibur” level blade?

Scott Frederiksen

Status tease!

Timothy Alexander

Sounds like there's a lot that could feed into the research scientist path.... My best guess is that if you can kinda 'aim' paths at skills you want to be T shaped - a few high tier skills (potentially walking and researching based on what the notes say so far) with a fair few more lower tier support skills...

Daedalus

Yep! No easy answers here. He’s got to figure out himself on his own.

Nim

I like that all of the advice he's getting about skills is clearly subjective/biased
