Apologies that the chapters have been moving/changing. This level of editing does take time, yes, and it's also hard for patrons to follow. I'll keep it to a minimum going forward. I'm giving a high level of edit for the first 20-30 chapters because they'll be the ones that will be uploaded when REND reaches Rising Stars on Royalroad, hopefully. I can't do it for the entire batch of 4 or 5 because I can't estimate what'll happen to it since I'm not a plotter. But I have a solution to this that I've thought of. I'll implement it to 6 onward. I'll shorten the chapters a bit so that when I'd end up adding stuff, it won't move the chapter. Past the initial batch of chapters for RS, I'm not going to edit this much. And I don't think I'd need to at that point because the story will be in full swing. Thanks for your feedback!

Excellent writing, good stuff!! As of now Rend and Rend adjacent stories are some of my favorites. I like that you're doing a lot of polishing as you go and that makes the story better overall but I feel like it is also slowing your progress. The brain stuff is a very critical subject and this scene is important but it has now been moved several times (3?). Not sure where I'm going with this... Don't get too bogged down in getting it too perfect I guess? Maybe finish a whole scene like all of 4.# or 5.# then go back over it as a whole and do your edits/changes? Everyone is different so that may not work for you. Been a long time since I wrote anything, I just know when I was writing it was easier to do a general scene then go back and flesh it out and tweak it to what I wanted whereas over analyzing and tweaking little by little bogged me down, discouraged me, and sometimes derailed the whole story.

Thanks for the edit suggestions to enchance the lines! As for the brain, it's a substance from the mutant brain that they need. They don't want to make connections because the Adumbrae will come. The mutants failed to make that connection, becoming mutants, because of something in their brain. And so, the 2Ms artificial Adumbrae consume the mutant brain. That's my working explanation for now haha. I'll add some of that explanation in the chapter. It doesn't sound too convoluted, does it? Good point about Adumbrae myths. We didn't really have any of that before. Also, Erind didn't really do a lot of testing about Adumbrae, which she should've. And I'll add more explanation to Firio's part. Originally, Erind was the one going to propose joining the 2Ms. But I thought I'd give Deen something to do. And I'll add a line that Deen is smarter than Erind and is used to social situations. I'll fix that line about police and BID. Good suggestion for the ending of the chapter. I think I know what to do there. Thank you very much!

- Lol, chocolate covered mutants. I still haven't decided on how Deen will find out Erind is an Adumbrae. It's going to be different from the original. - Good suggestion. And Erind doesn't know she gave Deen a plan. - I'm settling on the explanation that normal Adumbrae do grow the more they eat the brains while artificial Adumbrae don't. I'll make it clearer here. And so, Erind's goal is to find out what is different with the 2Ms Adumbrae so she can apply it to herself. - Yep, I'll make it clear Erind stabbed Deen from behind - I think Blanchette eating brains is more "okay" because Rofirio already did it first. Also, she's eating from a monstrous creature, not a humanoid. And Firio has a human form. It does come off as cannibalism with Firio and the mutant. That's just my guess. Now, my intention here is to make it uncomfortable. The question is how much of a bad thing is that? - The last time with Dario, they were practically telling stories. I think we'll limit the expo to the actual problem. We'll find a different place for Adumbrae/Corebring history. - Deen was basically a nobody in the previous Arc 1. Here, she's developed much faster for any potential ExD lol. And Erind/Deen combo was one of the strengths of the story. That only started in Arc 4, I think? Thanks for your insights!

The brain thing was mostly forgotten in the original REND. (Because I forgot about it lol). The explanation I'm going for now is that the brains made Erind stronger, as she did really get strong. SpookyErind just wasn't interested in taking over Erind at all.

"Deen sharply breathed. She probably feared that we'd be forced to eat brains too." -> "Deen sharply breathed. It looked like she was on the brink of puking again. She probably feared that we'd be forced to eat brains too." "We stared as he ate, scoop after scoop." - What an exhibitionist lol "Somehow, it works even with brains chewed to paste." - yet, shooting an Adumbrae's brain should kill this connection?... This is a contradiction, or, Firio is giving some wrong information. "On the other hand, you… eat brains so you won't lose your mind." - You can insert more exposition here. For example, Firio can answer, "You see, a natural Adumbrae can not lose its mind, because it is already lost, from the moment of seeding. At least, this is what they say." - This is not the true explanation of how it works, but this is a belief that 2Ms can use to convince hesitating people into becoming Adumbrae: "You won't be taken over, if you are an Artificial Adumbrae already." Just a suggestion :) I think, you should add some myths about Adumbrae into the story, which Erind can later discover to be untrue when analysing her experience as Adumbrae. In a situation like this, it is normal for such beliefs and rumours to circulate. "We're interested to be one," Deen chimed in. - That's a really cool turn :) I nodded. "Ye-yes, we will." - Deen is actually playing better than Erind here :) Which is funny, and I think Erind should have noticed that. "Pray all you want that the police, the BID, the Corebrings, anyone, save you. But no one will." - it seems like an unfinished sentence. "No!" I splayed myself over Deen, a weak girl desperate to protect her best friend. - I suggest changing this final scene of the chapter: "Wait!" I splayed myself over Deen. "How about MY body?" - Purple Mohawk burst out laughing. "Your body?". He mockingly pretended to check out my body from head to toe. "Even a drunken sailor... agh", he could not finish his painfully unfunny joke because I punched his face with all my might. - Now this fight will be very personal for Erind. I like Deen's role here. Perfect for her - Erind have something to learn from her (negotiation tactics).

OmniHumanist

I’d have to use a whole lot of sugar if I were to become a cannibal. Would eating humans be considered cannibalism if I were no longer one? What if I sprinkled chocolate—? -> I'm imagining Erind pouring whipped cream or even melted chocolate on top of them lol. Maybe Erind can jokingly ask this when Deen finds out she's an Adumbrae. “Just trust me,” I whispered. Well, that was a shitty thing to tell Deen, knowing that I might sacrifice her later. -> Maybe have Deen's eyes light up, indicating she knows what Erind is talking about, so it leads into Deen leading about becoming an Adumbrae. Did he mean that eating mutant brain prevented him from losing his mind to the Adumbrae? That was what I needed! -> I remember in the original version Erind continues to eat more and more, but she keeps getting more and more Adumbrae growths. Hopefully this rewrite addresses this and has Erind consider whether eating more is actually helpful.   This is it. I slipped out the tranquilizer darts from my pocket and stabbed Deen’s neck. -> Maybe indicate this is from behind. Given that eating brains is the point of the chapter, I extended the eating scene to highlight it and maybe unnerve readers a bit. -> For whatever reason I find this a bit more uncomfortable then when Blanchette is slurping up the heads from the centipede mutant. Maybe because Erind is the protagonist and/or Blanchette is hot? I don't know what is causing this lol. It would be interesting to ask other readers how they feel about this later. Much natural setting for exposition. We'll have more exposition when with Dario's group. -> I remember people having problems with that. I think leaking exposition when there's tension / arguments is probably the best. Either that, keeping it short otherwise and spreading it out. But it'll be interesting to see what's different this time. I also gave Deen a bigger role instead of just being a damsel in distress. Her reaction would tie in to her eventual decision to take the artificial Core. -> I liked this! It was nice seeing Deen taking initiative and going along with Erind's subtext. We need more scenes of Deen being manipulative. Thanks for the chapter!

Oh this reminded me of the brain thing lmao was erind constantly eating mutants and fake adumbrae as blanchette the reason why spookyerind was so slow in taking her over?
