- I'll remove the exposition with Adrian. It shouldn't be there. I inserted it but it looks out of place, yeah. They all know about it. They're not going to discuss it. Only Erind, Ramello, and Deen will be asked because they're seatmates and the professor thought they were talking. It's not even a topic of International Law. - The professor is the sort of guy who doesn't want the nitty-gritty part so I went with this. He's like a tells-it-as-it-is kind of guy. And this'll be interesting to the readers. Actual International Law is really boring. I'll probably add another concept since I'll be taking out Adrians part. It can be on the opposing Erind part. I'll work on that. And then I'll push things to this chapter. - As for legal rights, I think we'll put that with Constitutional Law Class. I'm not sure if Erind would've taken Consti in her first semester, but we can have subject specific to Bill of Rights and Adumbrae. I assume that's going to be quite extensive enough to deserve its own class. We'll have the example discussion you outlined here in that chapter. Then maybe one more class chapter for this Book 1, a couple of interactions while at school, and we're good for the school part. It's probably okay to delay the history of the Corebring and Adumbrae because the reader sort of has an idea what they are at this point. In the original REND, they were discussed with Dario's group. - Very cool statement. Then Erind can add "In summary, no one wants to mess with them." Thank you so much. I'll edit 3.2 and 3.3 tomorrow before I work on the next chapter.

- Maybe there can be a Corebring or Adumbrae with the power to fold things lol - Clive on a beach could be the intro to Corebrings arriving. I'm thinking that the government will allow some of them in to calm down the public. Just the low rank ones - Thanks for the suggestions! Good point on Ramello. What I'll do instead is still make him ask Erind, and then he'll be embarrassed and correct himself.

- Oh, you're right, it's Goodwin. I forgot his name so I used a different one. Let's use Goodwin for continuity. - The eating thing was what Bianca said. But there was another part about Adumbrae starting cults to link people together. They don't really need to eat each other. And the Cocoon in Eve was just tapping the heads cut off by the BID. It wasn't going to be a Purple Bloom, but it was trying. - SpookyErind wants Erind to win. Not sure what winning means. - We can explore that morality question of collateral damage here, especially when people due during a battle against an Adumbrae. - Yeah, I'll clarify that. I mean that assuming the Corebrings would violate the Protocol, they'll still be the good guys. - ExD getting developed early lol. Let's see how the readership reacts to this. I wanted ExD separate from REND before because not many readers want it. - Thanks for the help proofreading and the feedback!

Temple (REND)

That's true. He shouldn't have volunteered that information. I'll remove that.

In the original REND, I think it was mentioned that the first Purple Bloom was in Germany. And no one knew how to stop it, so it got really huge. Probably most of Germany is gone. Those that rebuilt in the aftermath wouldn't bother with territories; they'll be reconciliatory with the Allies I think.

It made me wonder what the order in Europe would look like after World War II? After all, the Germans didn't lose that war, they started cooperating with the Allies against the adumbrae halfway through, when they most likely still held a large area of occupied territory. After that, it's rather doubtful that the Germans would want to give up previously occupied territories, or that the Allies would reactivate the war in order to retake them.

I think "He’s not my actual uncle, but I consider him to be one. " is a bit awkward. You wouldn't over-specify that until someone questioned it, normally.

"folding police cars like origami" - I like this line, you should reuse it again at some point :) "there's a Corebring sunbathing on Las Palmas Beach" - you should add a scene with Erind in Las Palmas Beach meeting a Corebring. Clive, maybe? That would be hilarious. "Erind will go with me," Deen said, stepping forward. - Change it to present tense "Ering is going with me" - to make Deen sound more confident. The thing with inviting Erind to the memorial is that it sounds like a date invitation, which it should not. I suggest slightly rephrasing, "Erind, will you go to a memorial? ... My uncle says it might bring some closure to survivors, but if that is too much for you..." - it would sound more considerate.

These are my comments about the class discussion, so, this and the previous chapter: That's too much exposition, and it is awkward. Especially this part: "From the beginning, Mr. Garland, tell the class about when the Adumbrae and Corebrings first appeared. ... Imagine you're the narrator giving an exposition at the start of the movie." I suggest working the exposition into a more relevant-to-class discussion. You can have the same information but mixed in a more elevated debate that you can expect at a top law school (I'm sorry, but the current version sounds more like a middle school class). For example, when Prof asks other students to oppose Erind in the previous chapter, they can bring in concrete examples: "Sir, the Washington Protocol guards the relationships between our government and the Corebring Central Hive. For example, it outlines the procedures for requesting assistance from the Hive and limits Corebring's access to our territory. So, it is implicit that Corebrings are the subjects of International Law." And if there is a need to add more information, you can have Erind's internal monologue to do that, as she would be thinking of how to oppose the argument. Then, in this chapter, you can bring in the legal rights (the lack thereof) of Adumbrae, and have a discussion in class about the difference between Adumbrae and Corebrings, and why people with Adumbrae in their heads don't have any rights even if they did nothing wrong yet (the danger of manifesting is too high, and the presumption of innocence is not working on them: "If enough Adumbrae-infested congregate, they can start to link with each other, turning into this giant super brain entity called the Purple Bloom. If the Purple Bloom successfully opens, it'll Rend the veil between dimensions. And if the Rending isn't stopped, Kreggan-type Adumbrae will be produced. That is why any confirmed Adumbrae ... em.. individuals are considered dangerous and deprived of civil rights." "That's not the case" - another student - "Confirmed Adumbrae are not considered human, that's why they don't have any rights." "But animals have rights!" "And who confirms Adumrae? What about false positives?!" "Adumbrae are much worse than animals!" - there can even be some heated discussion in the class like this - and it can be a part of Erind's goal - she wants to stir up some drama AND also see how her classmates react to Adumbrae, who will be more open to the idea of Adumbrae and who will report and Adumbrae to the police right away. It is especially interesting to learn Deen's position on the matter. Then you (the professor) can also ask questions like "What is a confirmed Adumbrae?" and "When is a person considered Adumbrae?" - there is a narrow line between a human and Adumbrae in the novel's world, and that must be extremely interesting from the perspective of the law, which should be reflected in the classes like this. The final Erind's point about Corebrings not being subjects of international law can be: "Corebrings do not follow any procedures to confirm if the person is Adumbrae. From the state's law perspective, they can be killing innocent civilians, and the state does not do anything about it. Hence, Corebring's Hive is sui generis, an extraterritorial non-state actor with de facto immunity and no enforceable obligations under international law." - I really like this term, sui generis, "a thing of its own"; I think it describes the Hive's status perfectly. Also, I think Erind should make a smart statement like this to show that she is indeed very educated and can operate legal jargon.

Typos: “Yes, sir. “Multiple Cores crashed from outer space, giving people superpowers to fight the Adumbrae. -> “Yes, sir. Multiple Cores crashed from outer space, giving people superpowers to fight the Adumbrae. And that’s this entire section of the syllabus about Corebrings boils down to. -> And that’s what this entire section of the syllabus about Corebrings boils down to. ----- One of the cornerstones of President Maynard’s campaign was that we don’t need Corebrings, and we shouldn’t allow superpowered beings outside the government’s control to roam the country. -> I think his name was Goodwin in the last version. Castan and Linette mentioned it during arc 3's first epilogue. It could be funny if this is an entire different person. If enough Adumbrae-infested congregate, they can start to link with each other, turning into this giant super brain entity called the Purple Bloom. If the Purple Bloom successfully opens, it’ll Rend the veil between dimensions. And if the Rending isn’t stopped, Kreggan-type Adumbrae will be produced -> I think this is also different from what Bianca said in the original version. There, an Adumbrae had to consume enough powerful Adumbrae to become a purple bloom. I guess Adrian is just mentioning the public version of events? Also, I just remembered in arc 5's epilogue SpookyErind mentioned that her true colors are light purple. Is SpookyErind trying to convert Erind into a purple bloom? In Wars for the Stars, the main character destroyed the huge base of the big bad guy, killing thousands. Most of the people inside that base were probably innocent, cleaning personnel, maintenance, cooks, those jobs. But the hero’s act was celebrated, and everything else was brushed aside. -> Hey look a Star War reference! But yeah, that's the effect of black and white morality (not that the empire was ever good). It'd actually be interesting to have a Star Wars property explore that, how would families react when their loved ones died on the Death Star? I immediately sided with the Corebrings, branding the government as the wrong side, even though it was the other way around. -> So the Corebrings are the wrong side? Maybe this should be clarified a little. “Nope.” Deen grabbed my arm. “Besties over, um, mere seatmates. You’re going with me, right, Erind?” -> Deen is already being possessive of Erind lol. We can have some more class scenes in Book 1. What do you think of the chapter? Expo scenes are hard to do well. -> Yeah I think moving the exposition to the law school chapters is good. Having the law professor grilling the students makes it feel more lively than a typical exposition chapter. Thanks for the chapter!

Temple (REND)

I don't think she'll have any romantic feelings here. We'll lean in to Erind's psychopathy. Probably the setup around the middle of ExD when they were messing with each other, like using Blanchette on Deen. Not the latest parts where there are some emotions.

I like the more expository scenes in the class it drives home that oh yeah erind is in fact attending law school. Question i had though you mentioned elements of ExD would be incorporated into the rewrite i was curious how "emotionally" attached erind would feel towards dean since she seemed to be admitting some form of feelings in the latest ExD chapters
