PRO DOOM: LEGACY OF RUST
🕑 Added 2024-08-28 19:59:02 +0000 UTCAfter fighting Adobe Premiere tooth-and-nail for the last 24 hours, I am proud to finally present the longest and likely most blood-soaked episode of Pro Doom ever.
Adobe Premiere, unlike most other software I've used, decided that when I press "CTRL+S" and it said that it saved the project, it did not, in fact, save anything, which set me back about 24 hours. The video itself takes 5-6 hours to properly render because I was dumb and put a bunch of effects that people probably won't notice. (It's the flying musical notes! They change color!)
This video also took a little longer than I thought because I had a hundred stupid little gags, long gameplay clips, and a surprising amount to say about the new episodes as well as the new port. I didn't expect to see either, but that's the magic of QuakeCon!
The magic of QuakeCon didn't seem to include much Quake this year. As I'm writing this, I had to do a quick search to see that Bethesda did announce a weapon skin and a new map for Quake Champions. And I was going to say there was no Quake news!
I was pretty hyped about new classic Doom content. Nightdive, Machinegames, and id? New monsters? New weapons? Expanded mod support so I can play Simpsons Doom on my Switch?
Currently have three different videos on the backburner. I'm not sure there will be two spooky vids this year because the one I'm already working on is looking to be pretty big. And it's not even a shooter! Can't wait for Nightdive to drop that The Thing remaster and fuck up my plans. Worst case scenario is that the bigger October video comes out in early November. 'Tis the season for pumpkin spice and violence!
Hoping to do an Exophobia video and something Duke3D related in the meantime. The Duke3D-related video started life as a "What's Civvie Playing" that spiraled way out of control. It involves something I discovered back when I was working on the Zero Hour video.
Doom, however, comes first.
The children yearn for DOOM.

Watched last night as soon as I saw the notification. I've been hammering through all of the prior expansions as a returning pilgrim, so was going to finish on Legacy of Rust, but I couldn't wait, and wanted to see your experience of it. I'm absolutely not disappointed, the expansion looks like it's carpet-beating you the whole way through, and I am immeasurably hyped to play it. Excellent work as ever, Civvie. Any plans to return to Doom one day? Master Levels, maybe, since the new release gives it a "playing order"?

I played it couple of weeks ago on UV and the pain was immense - still is actually. My only thought then was "HOW IS THIS DOOM 2 IF IT'S THE THIRD LEVEL AND I STILL DON'T HAVE THE SUPER SHOTGUN" - apparently I was correct. This is just cruel!

It’s been adopted in re-releases but it was made separately without id or Bethesda’s involvement and released for free. It’s a grey area for sure.

This is absolutely 100% pedantic, but when you mention in the beginning that there hasn't been an official Classic Doom expansion since No Rest For The Living, wouldn't Sigil/Sigil 2 count in that regard, since they're (at least Sigil 1) also included in these releases?

Question: So, I played through the original Doom and Doom II on, I'm sure, the easiest possible difficulty as a kid. I'm taking the re-release as the chance to go back and actually fully experience everything. I just finished Doom on Ultraviolence (all four episodes, including Thy Flesh which you somehow undersold, FUCK is American McGee a sadist), and feel a bit of a fork in the road. My instinct was to go onto II and continue in release order, but if Sigil is supposed to be the fifth episode should I play that first?

I had a fun bug happen when I played Forfeited Salvation where the yellow key never appeared after I hit the switch, so I couldn’t finish the level and had to load a save to start over. That was fun. Glad it didn’t happen to you.
