Well, I saw this film with my dad when I was 8 years old. I have watched it time and again throughout my life and it still holds up. Heston is great and the stunt folks, I think Yakema Kanute (sic) knew how to drive a chariot. Lew Wallace was a Union General in the US Civil War. He seems to have used Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, written in the late 1700s and the Bible. The former reflects Gibbon's prejudices, and the film seems to play somewhat fast and loose with scripture. But it's a film based on a fictional work.
