Do whatever you want. This novel is basically "Worldbuilding: A Novel" so any changes you make to the plot won't really have an effect on the novel itself. You can worldbuild with a passive MC just as easily as an active one. Actually, it might be even easier with a passive one.

Xtriver, I see your point. Being forced to act by circumstances is all well and good, but after a while it starts to feel like the character is a puppet with no agency at all, or, as someone trying to place myself in the MC’s place, I start to find it unpleasant because it doesn’t seem like the mc is driving the plot, the plot is driving the mc, which does not generally make for a attractive character trait. I don’t think this story has much of a problem in that respect, but I admit, I liked Serenity being proactive in this bit and doing something because he seems to want to (he’s mentioned multiple times he could do with a good dungeon dive), rather than because it’s a big emergency of goal. I think some more relaxed minor arcs are necessary to relieve mental fatigue from the pressure of those kind of larger plots. Though again, I don’t think it’s a problem in this story, so I think either option for this arc would work just as well. I personally read this story because its not constantly action action action like Primal Hunter or Randidily (I got so burned out by the constant pressure) and actually realistically describes the mundane living and preparation and travel in-between, like the ubiquitous ‘hurry up and wait’, he had to do between waiting for people to find gates or dealing with the military and government.

I don’t know, I kind of feel some of the plot lines have been quite forced. This felt a lot more natural, like something he wanted to do rather than something he needed to do. You are the author but that is my two bits.
