I read a vampire fantasy series (I do not remember the name... it was during my vampire frenzy) where their bite had an effect like a really good drug for humans? So they couldn't feed off too much from one not to get them addicted. It's been a concept that stuck in my brain, clearly the only interesting thing from the whole series... so can definitely see your vision here
