The mosquitos being released are either most likely sterile so no new mosquitos will come from them mating with the naturally fertile ones or they are genetically modified to have some sort of anti-malaria properties so that the new babies in the wild will be more resistant to disease transport.

okay so i’m an animal science major lol, they are dropping male mosquitos that basically shoot blanks. (they are genetically made like this) lol they are going out there to mate with the females mosquitos already out there. In the end it helps keep control of repopulation and so it could down the road keep the number of mosquitos low.
