My relationship with my ex isn't exactly like Tara and Jake's but we still get along (better now actually) and talk often. Usually daily but not always. I could never be intimate with him again and don't think of him that way at all. Once I'm done with someone romantically, I'm done. I don't hook back up or anything. I learned a long time ago they will most often get feelings stirred back up and I can't go back and forth like that. So I draw that line. I tell him all the time I hope he finds someone good for him. Likewise, maybe one day I'll find someone right for me. I just hope we can all get along when those days come. (Worth noting we have kids together so it's a bit different) However, there's things we do that some people don't get. Example, he comes to stay over every Christmas Eve so we can both be present for the kids. It's annoying people always assume or make comments as if he sleeps in my bed or something. Nope. But I've learned people will think whatever they want. Some people keep exs close to always have a back up hookup available. Some have no desire to hook up with exs. So, I get Jake and Tara on their standpoint. Good for them!! ♡♡

This. They have both made an agreement that they want to be together, just not for right now and they both want to have other partners so they’re trying to have their cake and eat it too. They want the closeness and intimacy they know they have while also enjoying other partners and probably wasting their time which is completely unfair to the other partners they are most likely deceiving. Tara and Jake need to be honest with what’s going on instead of fooling themselves and deceiving other people as well. It’s childish and deceitful.

Y’all need to be more understand that a significant other should NOT have to put up with you interacting with your ex if they don’t feel comfortable with it, only a very small few group of people would be actually comfortable with it, for a lot of people it would be constant insecurity and worrying, not because they don’t care about you, because they DO care about you and don’t want to lose you and they know what happens when your significant other keeps in touch with their exes. Almost always you LOSE them. Nah you’re 100% right but hookup culture tries to bend the truths of feelings and relationship dynamics in order to allow hooking up with your exes. Or at the very least keeping them available. How is being friends with your ex equated to cheating? Wouldn't cheating involve being intimate with the other person? If two people want to maintain the friendship element of their relationship PLATONICALLY, that is not cheating. Now, if one person or both are not over each other and are simply just "waiting" it out to see if they should get back together, that's a whole separate thing. There are some relationships where you genuinely have nothing but respect and appreciation for that person and would hate to let them go just because you didn't romantically work out.

I think when someone really important and valued comes in, it would be natural for healthy boundaries to be set with an ex. If they prioritize their past relationship over a future one, it would be telling where priorities lie and maybe even where their future lies (Tara and Jake together in the end). Having boundaries doesn’t mean someone is insecure, but if they express how they feel in a healthy way, and if Jake and Tara still put each other as their #1 despite how that makes their partner feel, that’s telling. I get they want to be friends, but the way they speak leaves zero space for the thoughts or feelings of their next partner

It’s a BIG, big ask for their future partners to be fully comfortable with HOW close they are (staying at each other’s houses, hanging out 24/7, running errands together, working together, going on vacations together etc). It’s one thing to be friends with an ex but they are each other’s closest friends still and probably spend more time with one another than any one else. I honestly don’t think it’s fair to condemn a potential future partner for not being 100% okay with their dynamic. They are playing house without the sex part, which, as single people, is fine- that’s their prerogative, but to insist that a future partner be okay with basically playing second fiddle to the best friend/ex is not fair in my opinion. Maybe there’s a unicorn out there who would not care at all…but I think most people would care, deep down, at least. The most special and important person in your life should be your partner…not your ex, or even your very best friend. sorry 😬 I’m sure other people disagree with me and that’s okay too but those are just my thoughts. I really like both Jake and Tara and I think it’s great they’re friends, but I think the dynamics of a relationship will realistically change their dynamic a bit.

i feel like jake and tara will definitely reconnect again in the future.. you don't get to know a lot of people as deeply as these two know each other and you can tell the love will always be there. The way tara talks about their relationship makes me feel like jake definitely initiated the breakup and she just accepted them being friends because she'd still be able to have him even if they weren't dating. breakups are hard and never seeing your person again is worse but i wish them both the best 😭

I’m friends with my ex in the same way Tara and Jake are. I totally get their perspective. Sometimes being apart is genuinely what’s best for each other. And I feel like the freedom to love each other with no obligation caused us to love each other even more. The shift from partners to friends takes time but friendship is the purest love to me. You view each other as more than what you gain from each other, you value them as a person.
