WATCH Talking Fanfare?!
🕑 Added 2020-10-11 22:30:01 +0000 UTCSome things you just gotta see to appreciate. Since we're sharing screens already and got it all on zoom record, we thought we'd share this footage with you, our Checkmates. We felt it was important to give our patrons options for how they'd like to experience this seminal fanfare extravaganza. Our higher quality audio recording will remain up but if you want to kick back and watch the clips with us, this week you have that opportunity! What's your favorite fanfare?

1 million percent, combining the full-contemporary Saul Bass with the anachronistic music is as Kubrick as it gets
Pranav
Wish the Barry Lyndon Warner Bros. variant was discussed! Combo of the Saul Bass logo with Handel's Sarabande is incredible.
Sarah Farrell
Going to need a QUICK addendum on the Fox fanfare prior to Fire Island (2022)
Robert Denby
I've put a playlist together of movie theater intros and sound promos, roughly in chronological order. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfsfvk0M3AS607br6olglhs1wVR7WHXZl

The Paramount Coming to America was my favorite growing up and probably has stuck with me more than any other fanfare ever. It blew my mind as a kid knowing Zamunda was always right behind that mountain! Haha
MS Paint Trash
I'm only six minutes in and this is already excellent
Kevin Rowley
Did they happen to say when part 2 would be coming out? Because I may need to plan my whole week around it
John Barlow
OK so I synced up the podcast episode with the video and it was an absolute blast. Please please please release the zoom videos in the future at the same time as the podcast drops! Even if you don't sync it up with the HQ audio cos it's extra work, I'll do myself and have a grand old time.

Yes

Love love love this! Watching David get so geeked over this is amazing
Patrick Donges
"Blind" by Korn, the first track on their self-titled debut album. Released as the album's first single in August 1994. Also, IMHO, their best song.
Evan R
Anyway to download this video?
Gerry
This was my favorite episode
Eric
Give. Us. More. Video. This was great!
Myron Angus
thank you thank you thank you
Michel Lichand Mendonça
What is the YouTube account?
JonK
How could you not include the 20thCF intro to the Simpsons Movie? Ralph is the best! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-70ZQK9NuU
Dylan Murray
This is absolutely my jam and makes me so glad to be a patreon subscriber!
Bryan McGahan
See no evil hear no evil. Tristar logo.... no change to logo per se but amazing commentary.
Josh Gray
This was fantastic, thank you! Would love to see you get stuck into some of the animation studios next time 👍
Reed mikkelsen
Next time can you release the audio and video at the same time? Cause I would have just watched the vjdeo
Mari and James Holt
This is great! And thanks to the producers/ editors who made this a high enough quality video that I was able to stream to a 65” TV
Kevin Love Hewitt
Was that KoRn at the beginning of Charlie's Angels?
andrew coleman
This made me realize. They really should do a Hitchcock mini series, it seems so obvious but that's just because it's obviously right.
Judson Picco
This rules. To what extent do we think the "swoosh over gold mirrored studio backlot" one is harking back to Burton's Batman intro. One shield flyover to another? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwOAB98Vw7I
Michael Hashizume
I feel so vindicated that David also thinks that the Alien³ fanfare is the GOAT
Alex
Love love love this. I would love for these episodes to be more often than once a year.
Evan R
Thank you SO MUCH for the Video!
KB
I love this episode. I want to marry it.
Jeffrey Malone
Man, I just have to say how much this episode delighted me. I love fanfare!
Caleb McCandless
Documentary feature of the year
Lucas Nascimento
Also: missed the Columbia logo for Zombieland Double Tap, where the lady kills a zombie with her torch.
Lucas Nascimento
This is the best episode ever. OMG, make a million more of these!
JoeViturbo
Loving it!!! Is this the nerdiest thing they've ever done or is it the nerdiest thing ever?
Lee
Ben's fanfare suggestions for Blank Check Pictures at the end is gold.
Colin the dude
Loving it. David does begin to skim over logos out of time constraints. But this is a series that needs expanding. There is a YouTube account that has lengthy logo history montages. Even for THX, which is worth poking.
Alex Putz
Absolutely LOVING this 👏👏👏
Doug Foley
This was awesome! David's praise for the Alien 3 Fox Fanfare made me feel seen. I would definitely love to hear takes on Orion, United Artists, and possibly some of the A24 variations

For anyone interested, here's a case study on the new Warner Bros. branding from design agency Pentagram: www.pentagram.com/work/warner-bros

Thanks guys!

Ben looks nothing like he sounds. You sure he’s not the esteemed film buff, and you two are really the stoners watching Maximum Overdrive for the 15th time on TNT?
Marzi Margo
my favorite variant might actually be the one david mentioned, where the columbia logo is photoshopped to look like annette bening at the start of "what planet are you from?" the photoshop itself is a dumb, pointless joke, but what i find fascinating is the alternative fanfare used in this opening. it's even more brooding and unnerving than the "alien3" fox fanfare and doesn't fit at all with the visual gag. but that's exactly why i keep returning to it. it's just uniquely bizarre.
Caleb Clark
as someone who 1) thinks extremely visually and has to imagine what the hosts of podcasts are doing with their bodies/expressions as i listen and 2) animates, and has used (and probably will again use in the future) blank check audio clips for rough animatic posing practice, this is a godsend. A treasure trove of reference footage. I 100% understand why you can't post these all the time but thank you so much for this
David Wong
Thank You!
john-kawika shelton
Love it
Dan Foster
Thank you very much for posting this! Glad I delayed listening to the audio - this was the way to experience this!
Jonathan cronin
That. Was. Great.
Kodiac
Can I use these comments to formally request a Blank Check lets play stream of the Back to the Future telltale game?
Philip Ehlke
This episode is pure pr0nography. (Also thanks Eric Ward for the link)

Sebastian Murillo
Cant play it. F
Harry Brown
If you inspect the page and find all mentions of vimeo you can get the URL that way.
CM
cant play it either
Lenora Murphy
I also can't play it...
Chris Miracle
I've always loved the 70s WB and every time I see it I smile. Also seeing the old Harry Potter one was a big nostalgic moment!
Rufio420
BEN! The damn thing won't play!
Ivan Carmona-Alvarez
The Paramount+other studio logos in Rogue Nation
Rainbow Battle Kid
Spider-Verse is GOAT.
Kenny Madison
Same here! Cannot play it.
Alan
Yep can’t play it
Jonathan Eby
Yup. On several devices.
Alex Trowbridge
Anyone getting a privacy message that doesn’t allow it to be played?
Ben Raine
this is great, love having a visual for something like this so you can see the logos with them.
Jonathan Eby
I like the New WB logo, and if someone would combine it with the 1936 fanfare (basically that old logo) I’d go insane.
Zack
this rules
Stephanie
Totally on Team Touchstone. Tried looking up what their early 90s slate was because I’m sure my love is largely nostalgia-based.
Christian Laliberte
YAAAAAAAAAS
Zach Walls
Hell yeah
