The Phantasm first appeared in 1987's Batman: Year Two.

Listening to this in 2023 and in hindsight. Hearing Griffin describe the late Kevin Conroy as openly gay, and I feel compelled to mention that we know now that wasn't always the case. Conroy left us with a tremendously moving autobiographical comic published during DC Pride month that explained how difficult it was for him to work as a closeted actor, and how that experience and his own family trauma informed his approach to playing Batman. RIP to a true legend.

I second the motion. Especially because they could watch the darker version and discuss the difference between Hamill’s original portrayal and this new version of the Joker.

I just want to say that as someone who became a first time girl dad himself 8 weeks ago, I could not have been more delighted with the “I wiped your bottom”/“Main Changer”/Poop/Diaper digression.
Jalen Johnson
Quick correction, Keaton did have a Batman voice. As a matter of fact he was the first actor in any medium to provide a different voice for Batman when he’s in the cowl.

As someone who’s expecting their first child in October in Brooklyn not only do I appreciate newborn poop talk but would love a side pod on finding semi affordable childcare in Brooklyn/ oops all nyc parent tips haha
rebecca brown
Would love to hear full versions of those closing credit love songs. Instant classics.

I prefer the New Adventures designs better. The Frank Miller bat symbol. Nightwing. Catwoman. Even the Joker.
Karah S & Ralph U
Introducing Ralph to Sister Act was our New Year's Eve movie this year. We could hear fireworks going off outside at midnight just as I Will Follow Him began to play. It was surprisingly magical.
William Evans
It’s not the best Batman movie but it’s maybe the best paced Batman movie Also as someone who saw both for the first time recently: Sister Act 1 >>>>>> Sister Act 2. Easily.

So excited for Griffin in Harley Quinn!

“Oh dear, another package of BONES” - Griffin as Ben’s Alfred.

I was OBSESSED with the Disney Three Musketeers franchise as a kid (I blame my uncle) so I'm fully behind this.
Chris Kw.
I propose a one-off Three Musketeers franchise commentary. I re-watched that movie on Disney Plus after you guys brought it up last time. Not good but it is crazy.
Michael Hashizume
Love the Mrs. Doubtfire bit
Evan Arndt
grow up.
Rad Rodge
Pssssh Julia and Denzel are great in that movie, would love for the script to be better than just okay but the stars star it up

Have you watched Xmen recently? Its TERRIBLE. Animation is bad. Dialogue and acting are comical. Everyone has. Canadian accent EXCEPT Wolverine? The only good thing about that show was the song. And even that was a rip off.

‘Batman should just shoot Joker. With a gun.’ - David Sims, Modern Philosopher
Joel Edmiston
I like the casualness of the Patreon commentaries but I really could do without the long chat about baby shit. I almost barfed. Too many details. Sorry to be negative.

Also, they mention Batman TAS AND 90s X-MEN. Those are great but I was more of a SPIDER-MAN TAS guy and Superman TAS guy. And on into Justice League and JL Unlimited. Their just captured my imagination more and still held on to the Bruce Timm of it all. And Spider-Man just nailed everything I loved about the character!

Uh let’s not disrespect BATMAN BEYOND: RETURN OF THE JOKER which is an elite Batman movie! Wish they’d also do that one but they are obviously only doing theatrical…

I don't believe David has rewatched The Pelican Brief in the last 10 years. Boring af
Cameron Taylor
Love this movie but Griffin’s insistence that this movie is “made more for adults than kids” is so funny. Like it’s still a kids movie, it just appeals to adults
Jeremy Jones
Very defensive start to this episode
Anthony Regina
I’m right there with you as that guy they’re mocking. Particularly for the cemetery scene. It’s more adult and nuanced about mourning than almost anything in the other Batman movies. And I’m an obsessive about all this Batman shit. It’s like David mentioned. This works best because…it’s coming from a drawn medium. There’s always gonna be a level of disconnect in live action to any extent.

Andrea!!!!!

Still my favorite Batman movie. Parts that always make me tear up? The opening credits, Bruce at his parents’ grave, Batman freaking out Alfred by putting on the mask,
Michael Hashizume
They covered a few 2D animated films on Patreon as part of covering animators on main feed (Miyazaki, Musker & Clements)
Joseph Magnuson
Cool! Love the esoteric convo happening during these b/c honestly not my thing, but I'mma listen to all of them for Two Friends banter.
Jordan B. Anderson
First 2d animated film covered?
