I'm with Griffin on this one, I guess. Saw both AvPs in theaters and never got over the profound disappointment I felt after the first one. Had a better time with the second one. I still feel like, the first film has Predators in it, yet not one spine gets ripped out, not one head is cut off. Automatic fail. Didn't give me the bare minimum. Plus, I just can't with the forced pseudo-coolness of PWS Anderson. AvP:R at least has gore, even if it's hard to see. I think both stink, but it felt as if AvP:R didn’t actively try to piss me off every frame. Guess I'm more mad at the first one than the second one.

How much DID the steak cost?!

My memory of this movie is seeing the first one in the theater and the audible laugh from the audience when they pull back to show her with the alien skull as a shield

Odd. This, and only this, episode won't play on my rss feed, says not authorized in my podcast app (overcast). Other episodes download fine.
Rad Rodge
Not to get too technical but this sounds frickin cool
Tyler Duggan
Idk if it’s changed since the episodes I’ve heard the boys talk of it, but Griffin hasn’t watched any of them… or just Legacy? Same with Ben
Robert Denby
Oh hey you're doin the Brosnan Bonds! I had already done trailer reels for the first two, decided to make ones for the other two. These approximate the ads and trailers that would've played in front of the films in US theaters on their initial release. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/gaxxwn3gb5ue9ww6tj8g8/h?rlkey=i25c3wra4tk5g5dlp3ahamwwc&dl=0

My partner and I have been watching the Bourne's (I've seen them, they haven't) and they've been floored by how good the Bourne movies are. They'd just assumed they were dumb action flicks but the first three at least are all SO GOOD.
Douglas Wykstra
The Bourne series would be PERFECT to do shortly after the Brosnan Bonds (with the musical-comedy series between as a palate cleanser). It would really put into context why those movies felt like such a breath of fresh air.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World!

I saw Alien 3 opening night with my dad at age 13. And yes, we did not like the bleak movie that hated us. If fact, I skipped this and Resurrection when you did it a few years ago, and am only now having my second viewing. I started listening before finishing the movie, so I went first hour Assembly and then switched to theatrical. Maybe that’s the secret sauce for this one?
ian
they should make an Alien vs Prey movie where Amber Midthunder kills one million aliens
Ivan Cockrum
In the main feed Aliens3, around the 31 minute mark, the boys got into what it must have been like for young people to see Aliens in theater, and I'm here to say that I was 12 in 1979, and had my grandparents drop me off at the theater to see Alien by myself. The thing I remember the most vividly from that original viewing is the ominous way the title fades in one piece at a time. Afterwards I went right out and bought the 18" Kenner Alien doll.

I have been sweating seeing David logging Saw films of letterboxd. SO glad those are officially NEVER going to be commentaries.
Tyler Duggan
JFC no way. Really!?
Tyler Duggan
Both these movies would’ve been improved with a “h’wat DIDjueXPEACT!? SOO-puh-MAN!?”
Dennis Rowland
A note about the justified complaints re. how dark Requiem looks. They blame the cinematography in the episode, but if you look up who shot the film, it's Daniel Pearl, responsible for the original Texas Chainsaw and the remake, plus lots of other great looking films. There has been a lot of talk over the years about how the film was taken away from the filmmakers and artificially darkened in post because the studio didn't have faith in how the monsters looked, essentially ruining the movie. Watching it with the brightness and contrast cranked up is actually likely closer to how the film is supposed to look than what is available now.

Please do a commentary on the first one with Ben at least!

austin powers?
Rad Rodge
(I mean obviously not a PSH line, I just think the whole scene is a success)
Rad Rodge
Forgot how much I liked “It’s not the kind of…upbringing, I guess is the word I’m looking for?”, that’s a great moment in actually naturalistic Sorkin dialogue
Rad Rodge
Was inspired to watch it by this ep, it had been a while, it hits as good as ever
Steve Nutt
I had a good time watching Requiem. But I was incredibly drunk and love a truly awful movie.
Aaron Summers
Holy shit, I also watch that PSH scene multiple times a year, the last time was just a few days ago.
Tom Lowery
The price of the brood steak is cursed info. Those who know must take it to the grave.

I saw AvP on mushrooms in college, my walls are breathing
Jeremy Jones
the steak cost $37,000
Josh Harvey
Payoff is an obvious understatement

Related, but listened to the new Alien3 pod today, and they asked a few times what it was like to see this in theatres. It was actually a good experience! I saw it opening weekend in Southeast Detroit and it was one of only two films I’ve ever seen where the audience burst into applause at the end. Not even sure if everyone loved it necessarily, but I think because it felt like such a clear ending to a special series.

How is this episode not called ALIEN VS PREDATOR vs ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM?
Matt Maher
I think David should pay a comedy point fine for talking about an Alien movie and saying the phrase "It mostly takes place at night" and failing to follow that up with "mostly"
Rob R
Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever
Taylor Owens
I can’t believe this Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever erasure.
Austin McDougle
I would vote for Chipmunks in the bracket
Cale Woods
Same. Disappointing.

I work in a kitchen and my chef is hilariously named... Dallas Howard

AvP is so similar to Prometheus. Genuinely shocked me the first time I watched.
Lizz
I want AvPvT. Alien vs Predator vs Terminator.
Lizz
Or start spreading the oooooze
Lizz
I LIKED AVPR there I said it
EvanEightNine !
No dead air. It’s a 10 episode wise
Seymour Butz
We need a commentary that’s just Ben reacting to seeing AVP for the first time
LS
Maybe the Predator should hunt a Kaiju
graham self
Here's my pitch for the next Predator movie, it's called 'Predateer' and its set on the high seas during the golden age of.piracy. Alt. title 'Predators of the Caribbean' if you must.
Jordan B. Anderson
how the predators don't easily win ever time really confuses me. it must be their hubris
Tom
I was gonna say the same thing!
Rad Rodge
“I call it the blimp cause it was such a Goodyear” hahahah goddammit
EvanEightNine !
25 min in, talking equalizer and saw. Haven’t mentioned avp, this is so much better than commentaries
Joshua Ochoa
How did David not sing “start spreading the Chestbursters?”

I rented both AvP movies thinking these were going to be commentaries :-(

A musical comedy series at the end of the year? I was wondering when the Trolls trilogy would be covered.
