Late to the party, but there is a lot of handwringing about the way this movie handles japanese culture. I took fat bastard being a sumo wrestler to be a direct nod to Connerie in “you only live twice,” where bond fakes his own death and then gets plastic surgery to “become” Japanese.

Can you add this episode to your Austin Powers collection, please? My completionist brain finds it irksome that it is the only one not in there. 😅

The Austin Pussy stuff was actually spoiled in the UK, The Sun newspaper put it all over their entertainment section one Saturday and people were LIVID

How would you describe the problem that is modern superhero movies? I really get irritated when people bring up Spielberg or the Planet of the Apes movies or Westerns or Star Wars as gotchas, indicating that there has always been a precedent for this type of four-quadrant, franchise filmmaking... but the MCU (and DCEU) just feels different than those things but I have a hard time articulating why. How are modern superhero movies different or similar to the franchises that came before? Why does it feel worse now?

Boys boys boys. You ragged the movie the whole time whilst laughing and admitting that bits were funny! What the hell boys!!??

Who else wants the maestro pod to veer off course and become completely about salt burn?

Never before has a commentary flipped between "it's so over" and "we are so back" as quickly or as often

This movie holds a very special place in my heart because my sister misquoted an amazing piece of dialogue as “I used to think you were nuts, but now I can see your balls.”

i will cherish the memory of this episode while listening to you guys watch The Love Guru

David - you could take your kiddo to Ponyo in the theater when AMC has it again. That’s what I did with my littles for their first movie theater movie.

David touches on the Star Wars TCG as a companion to this Uber complicated AP card game boom, I would imagine he also had trouble parsing the rules of the Star Trek TNG CCG that is contemporaneous of those two

As someone who got back into MTG as an adult and is now doing work for them, all this trading card game talk is making my day.

The guys playing the young versions of Austin Powers and Dr. Evil are not dubbed. There’s a whole special feature on the dvd/Blu-ray about them.

Griffy do. Davy don’t.

Just wanted to point out that it does make sense for Basil and Number 2 to be the same age as Austin and Doctor Evil in the flashback, due to Austin and Dr being frozen for 30 years
Joshua Inman
I've never seen this movie. I just missed it somehow.

They should make a new Austin Powers movie but do it Bond style new actor and aesthetic. Mocking the Craig eras oh so seriousness. Matt Berry seems like a no brainer, he could also do the theme tune.
Tyler Lyon
This was the first movie where I remember a friend bringing it to watch at a party and holding back my disappointment that he brought a VHS.

Truly maybe my ultimate “I know this is shit, but we watched the DVD so much growing up so now its a part of my soul” movies. I can do the damn “English English” bit from memory. Also, as always is said, Marie has maybe the most infectious laugh in the biz. Its like the platonic ideal of the Gervais cackle.

Fear not David, I could never cancel on my two friends and Co

So many laughs, had a good time with the good, the bad and the Dutch.

David's pitch for the Austin Powers musical revival is the plot of "Velvet Goldmine" 😁

Maybe an illustration of Momoa and Timmy doing the warrior’s “grasp each other’s forearm instead of a handshake”? Just putting this out there

Just FYI I would pay good Republic credits for a shirt that says “Wonkquaman” on it

There's only two things I hate in this world. Blank Check's Patreon schedule being slightly out of the usual order and the Dutch.

I’m looking forward to hearing how high they rank Michael Caine’s performance just ‘cuz it sounds like a side tangent that they’d get into 😀
